Mid Life Celebration on You Tube

Mid Life Celebration.  It’s the antithesis of mid life crisis. Same thing, different outlook.

Attitude makes all the difference, doesn’t it?  Whether it’s personal or professional, attitude is a way to excel in anything.

jeff noel (that’s me), founder at Mid Life Celebration, was traveling through Columbia, South Carolina a few days ago and noticed this airport hallway billboard.

To be excellent once, or maybe twice, is a huge accomplishment. But to do it eight straight years, well, unbelievable.

But that’s exactly what Lexington Medical Center has done. Here’s the one-take-You Tube video with my commentary:

You know what watching this video does for me? It reminds me that attitude is everything and also that much can be gained by reinforcing simple principles like this. Ya with me?

Unhappiness Is Our Fault

“Unhappiness is best defined as the difference between our talents and our expectations.”Edward de Bono

There are many ways to start talking about this.  And initially, I was simply going to let the quote “speak for itself”, without any additional dialogue.

However, me being me, well, that obviously didn’t happen.

But compromise is in order and I will end this Mid Life Celebration blog post with a top-of-mind thought.

Once I started writing, consistently, back in March, a transformation began. As if something inside me was awakened and began to grow. And then suddenly realized, I hadn’t even begun to discover what was possible.

Talk about a joyful experience.  Undiscovered joy, newly found, was remarkably  humbling.  And humility brings incredible joy.

Oh, and by the way….

“Unhappiness is best defined as the difference between our talents and our expectations.”

Mid Life Showoff?

Mid life show off?  Depends.  It’s all in the eye of the beholder isn’t it?  Recently, I heard someone make a few snide remarks about me – “What a showoff.  No shirt.  Trying to impress people”.

“Dude, are you talkin’ to me”?, I asked impatiently.

“I guess I am”, the person said, also sounding impatient.

“I’m sorry, I’m not trying to show off.  Went for a run earlier this morning”.

He then says, “Why not wear (baggy) gym shorts”?

To which I respond, “I’m a sprinter, and sprinters never wear baggy shorts.  Ever watch swimmers”?

He quickly says, “Yes, with the skin tight pants”.  “Exactly”, I say.

What was interesting was this:

  1. The person made judgements strictly from my appearance
  2. I never lost my patience
  3. With both walked away feeling better about both of us

Amazing what a little patience, creativity and self-control can do to get better results – skills instilled in me for the past 25 years.  Hope it didn’t look like I was showing off.

Mid Life Fanatic

Mid Life Fanatic. Why yes, yes I am.

Why wouldn’t anyone want to be a mid life fanatic? Actually, why wouldn’t anyone want to be fanatical about life? Period.

Fanatical. Defined as excessive enthusiasm.

Enthusiasm is just another word for attitude. Attitude is up to you. No one else. Period.

We get one chance to have enthusiasm. It’s the time between our birth and our death.

Ya with me?  Seriously.  Are you with me?  Carpe diem 🙂

Mid Life and Time

Mid Life and Time.

“Happiness may well consist primarily of an attitude toward time”. Robert Grudin

Is this not a BFO?  A Blinding Flash of the Obvious?

Recently, I shared with our son that I’m especially challenged this year to spend time with him.

I feel it, but can’t tell if he does.  He most likely does, even if he can’t put his finger on it.

Figure it out Jeff.  You need to figure this out.  The clock is ticking. He just turned nine. You only get a nine year old for one year.  Then they turn ten.

Are ya with me?  Carpe diem, jeff noel 🙂
