Zero expectations, mind

black background with gold text about expectations
Expectations gap and challenges.

Examining and reflecting on myself, i ask…

What mental expectations are needed?

What mental expectations are nice to have?

What mental expectations are unnecessary?

What mental expectations are harmful?

Thoughts control habits.

Habits control results.

Therefore thoughts control my mental results.

And what happens to my habits and results if i reduce or eliminate unnecessary and harmful mental expectations?

I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.

The gap

Yesterday, in a Sanibel gift shop.

The gap between what we wish for and what we actually experience is ours to deal with.

The goal seems obvious – eliminate the gap.

How?

Two most compelling ways:

  1. Lower your expectations
  2. Raise your efforts

Picking either one creates a new set of challenges. Challenges are opportunities to create and sustain personal vibrancy.

The other two front running options:

  1. Combination of lower expectations and higher efforts
  2. Learn to live with the gap

Happy present moment.

If you’re not a dreamer, i’m out

Performance Excellence was Judson Green’s vision that began in 1992 and rolled out to all leaders in 1994.

If your goal isn’t impossible, i’m not going to be able to help you.

i thrive on helping others do what they think is impossible.

Tell me your crazy dream.

Take as long as you need.

And be clear, concise (if possible), and compelling.

Why?

Because compelling and clarity feed organizational vibrancy.

You’ll lose your team if they aren’t compelled by the clarity of where you are heading.

And if you lose your team, this means you’ll also lose their teams.

And this repeats itself until it spreads contagiously to your frontline staff.

You’ll also lose me if you aren’t clear and compelling.

Make it so your team’s (and my) only reaction to what you’re saying is, “Wow, that’s incredible.”
