Solve a big problem

.thinking .differently is a joy for some people.

If knowledge is power, then the application of knowledge is a superpower.

Self-education is the fastest, most effective way to help yourself.

The challenge is you have to lead the way, the whole way.

What an incredible challenge to have.

Back To The Future

Are your steps doomed from the beginning?

Warning, this post is not short and pithy, but the rest of today’s are.

Being in a position to solve important and interesting problems is a privilege.

The only way you find yourself interested in a problem though is if it aligns with your passion(s).

And then there’s…

The first, difficult, and potentially catalytic task for solving an important problem….

Calling it out.

This can embarrass and anger people – usually unintentionally.

You know, speaking up about what could be better when no one has a clue right now how to make it better.

Most people sense the world’s America’s biggest problems, take obesity or the divorce rate, for example.

But big issues are easy to ignore.

Why?

Because they’re hard.

So we stall, we wait, and we do nothing.

Before any real work gets started, we convince ourselves we need:

  • Certainty
  • Easy answers
  • A quick fix
  • A guarantee

If we need any of those things, we’re making excuses not to start. The search for quick, easy, guaranteed and certain results will undermine our creativity to begin.

And without the first steps, the next steps, and the ones after that, well, they never get taken.

The problem is not the real problem

Quotes
Eight years ago.

The problem is not the real problem.

The problem isn’t having new ideas.

Humans are born to build their lives on new ideas.

It’s in our DNA.

Ideas build our foundation as we enter adulthood and carve out a life independent from our parents.

The challenge is terminating old ideas which were once new but are now old.

And because they’re old, let’s assume we’ve been incorporating these ideas into our daily lives long enough to have created the deeply embedded habits we call daily life.

Joyful Anticipation

Joyful
Joyful

Do you look forward to each new day?

I mean, with a joyful anticipation? Not an awful dread.

This can be challenging to say the least. You have to suspect that some readers may not believe I have much experience with Hell, with challenges, problems, obstacles, fear, failure, struggle, grief, agony, hopelessness, strife, worry, doubt.

Do all of you have a ton of experience with these things?  Okay then, I rest my case. We all do. No one is immune.

Then why am I so optimistic and “joyful”?

Great question.  Some people think I’m crazy. A weirdo.  Or, worse, a fake.

It’s taken like 50 years, but, I’m totally cool with it all. Finally.

One of the secrets to being joyful, is so simple, you’re not going to believe it. And it brings great joy to tell you that tomorrow, I’ll reveal January’s “value”.

Thankfulness

Stuck?

Little bit. Maybe it’s the cold. Maybe not. Maybe it’s the time difference. Maybe not. Maybe it’s writer’s block.  Maybe not.

Whatever it is, I’m thankful for it.

What?

Thankful for writer’s block?  As a writer, are you telling me you’re thankful that you can’t write?

Absolutely!

The simple fact of addressing something honestly can be liberating. Plus, the fact that most of the time writing comes easy, well, that inevitably will lead to days where it doesn’t.

So, I’m abundantly thankful for both sides of the coin.  Are you? Make it a great, and thankful, day.  Because if you don’t, who will? If not today, when?  Carpe diem.
