Work while others play

Disney Traditions is Day One for Cast Members. All Cast Members receive a handful of key messages. On Christmas Eve (today), recalling this one:

We work while others play.

Disney Traditions

Was at Disney 13 years before asking for Christmas week off. Didn’t get it.

Didn’t even ask until my 13th year.

Can you imagine?

Got it, finally, in year 14.

Very intentional about waiting 13 years to ask.

Why?

Because we work while others play.

Do or do not

Dreams require risks. Risks require failure. Failure enables growth. Growth enables dreams.

Do or do not do the work.

Is there a third choice?

No, from my six decades on this planet. i have discovered my own truths. Truths many others embrace, and at the same time, many others shun. Right or wrong, we need to commit. i am committed to my truth – which may grow and develop as more years teach more lessons.

Some might say that doing some but not all of the work is doing the work, and i say that doing the work is like a marriage, you are 100% committed or you are not committed. Cheating means failing.

At some point, i deemed my being faithful to a positive attitude was all or nothing.

Cheating by being impatient, unkind, angry, and negative means i have failed.

i do not like that type of failure.

Failing from calculated risk taking inspires me.

Needed to say all of this to clear up any doubt about my intimate relationship with failure.

Spring 2019 has sprung

Arnold Schwarzenegger speech
The long way is the short cut.

Spring 2019 has sprung.

Hello March 20, 2019.

You tricked me because i thought the 21st ushers in Spring. Not this year.

For every animal that hibernated this Winter, Spring is a great example of working hard.

For every person with a big, important dream, now is a great time to work your butt off.

We age but we do not need to feel old

sunrise at the beach
After 59 years, this never gets old.

A master in the art of living draws no sharp distinction between his work and his play; his labor and his leisure; his mind and his body; his education and his recreation. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence through whatever he is doing, and leaves others to determine whether he is working or playing. To himself, he always appears to be doing both.

Our first home had 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, 1-car garage (1,100 sq. feet).

That house cost $47,400 in 1985.

Our first mortgage was $45,000.

When mailing our monthly mortgage payment, an extra principal payment of just $52 saved us over $700 in interest.

i burned dozens of paper files from our 35-year marriage’s history.
