Two weeks into a Summer of Disney Business Books writing

Disney Business Books author
Writing two hours every morning helps me think. Thinking helps me do. Doing helps me serve. Serving helps me find peace and contentment. Peace and contentment floods me with joy.

Two weeks into a Summer of Disney Business Books writing.

You can pretend to care, but you can’t pretend to show up.

The world is not changed by people who sort of care.

Be amazed and be amazing.

It’s yours to take as far as you want.

Honey, It's For You

Dear Past

dear world
At Rollins College cafeteria yesterday.

Dear Past, thank you for all the lessons.

Dear Future, if you will have me, i am ready.

Dear Me, i know you’re invested in the path you’ve created, but it’s time to walk away from it.

You cannot demand your way to commitment from others.

You can only (repeat, only) inspire and develop others to become committed.

And even with that, the odds of others being inspired by what you do is low.

Wish i had better news for you.

Your attitude in hearing this news right now….

Adversity doesn’t develop character, it reveals it.

Go.

You can do this.

It will be hard.

You will want to turn around – to quit, to retreat, to not change.

You know you can’t because, then, nothing will ever transform.

3 basic tools for growth and positive change

Nursing home info board
Upper left, November 5th (yesterday). Be intentional about preparing for your death. Ask and answer life’s important questions with a determined sense of urgency. Some questions take decades to answer. Fear is a poor excuse to postpone your efforts (and obligation).

Three basic tools for growth and positive change:

  1. Paradox
  2. Questions
  3. Common Sense

With yourself and others, argue like you’re right and listen like you’re wrong.

And be convinced about where you stand.

No one else can do this for you.

Please remember, your clock is always ticking.

No amount of rationalization makes it ok to leave this as a burden for someone else, especially when you don’t discuss it with them.

Fear is out to trick you into mediocrity

It just spewed out of my mouth yesterday in the dentist’s chair, “i work seven days a week. i can’t remember the last time i took a day off.”

What would happen if we worked seven days a week for a decade or more?

What if it never felt like work?

We eat everyday.

We pray (hopefully) everyday.

And by pray, i simply mean we give thanks (live in constant gratitude).

Right?

MidLife Celebration Is...

Our life is the product of our priorities

Hard Rock Cafe Louisville sign
Love all, serve all.

Our life is the product of our priorities.

The thing we forget is that our priorities need to also be prioritized.

It’s not uncommon to have all the right priorities, but have the order skewed.

Sooner or later ambitious people (like me) learn the hard way that work isn’t the most important thing.

So we rethink things, reprioritize our priorities, and move forward recommitted to our enlightened vision.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.
