Seven years later we reach the starting line

Life has a funny way of providing what we need, if we stay with it and ebb and flow like nature.

It is often called wisdom.

Seven years later we reach the starting line.

April Fools Day is almost here.

  • 100% certain i will continue to devote a minimum two hours a day to writing
  • 93% (a made up number) sure writing will focus on a book(s)

Perhaps the 100-day blog surplus, which evolved over several years, was divinely created to offer the opportunity that (probably) commences in 20 days.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

What do you want to do?

What do you want to do?*

Not your job, but your work. There’s a difference.

Your job is what you have to do.

Your art work is what you get to do.

So think about that on three terms:

  1. Now
  2. Tomorrow
  3. Future

You know when executives talk about how busy they are and how tough it is to find time to step back and figure out what’s not working and how to fix it? i offer remarkably simple architecture for organizational vibrancy, something i’ve mastered from 30 years at Disney.

*If you’re having trouble answering this, you’re going to have trouble moving up, because you’ve abdicated your dream to whomever walks in the door next.

If this is true, what does today and our future hold

As we think so we are.

Most of us, myself included, have inferiority complexes.

As we reach midlife we should experience these feelings much less often.

Why?

Because of the way we think.

i believe it’s possible to eliminate negative thoughts with the help of a balanced approach to life.

Bottomline (in my opinion), we need to feed ourselves with positive self-talk, continuous personal development, and constant loving care of our mind, body and spirit.

Hallelujah kind of day

Apple Music screen shot

Yesterday was (and today is) a Hallelujah kind of day.

Yesterday was a victory.

Hallelujah.

Everyday, if we are focused, turns out to be a Hallelujah kind of day. But it’s hard with the weight of the world on our shoulders to remember this.

Only when the weight feels like it’s lifting do we find time to pause and count our blessings in the midst of overwhelm.

Yesterday was a better-than-average productive day.

i find it paramount to remain determined and to keep going – one ordinary day at a time – and only accept victory over what challenges me.

Should we love uncertainty?

road work sign
Yesterday in our front yard. Can road work employees consider their work art? Should they?

Art rarely can be scaled for a production line.

Yet Apple does it with the iPhone.

However, art, for mere mortals like you and me, cannot be scaled.

But is can be replicated in original ways every single day.

It’s called passion.

A calling.

A drive to do the ordinary in extra-ordinary ways.

And each day because we begin anew, we can never be sure of our finished product.

Sometimes we fall short, or even fail.

And this is beautiful.

It reminds us of how uncertain art can be.

Art always carries risk.

And the minute we try to remove uncertainty from our art, something dies.

Removing uncertainty destroys the thing we originally fell in love with.

Whatever we do today, it won’t be the result that makes it magic, it will be the uncertainty.
