To keep writing or stop, mind

Midlife Celebration
First blog posts are from 2008. Daily writing began April 1, 2009.

Keep writing?

Or stop?

How much more writing do i have to do, want to do, need to do?

Well, i…

Don’t have to write more.

Don’t need to write more.

But i do want to write more.

Short term (6-12 months more) says keep going.

Why?

To capture this major life transition to fixed-income, no more working lifestyle.

There’s juicy, important stuff i’ve never thought about.

That’s some of my favorite stuff to write about.

What i hope for today, mind

Happy Saturday, May 9, 2026.

Been blogging since October 2008. How can i still bog after 18 years? Seriously, how?

And.

And this is a big ‘and’…

‘And’ i’ve been writing five daily, differently-themed blog posts since April Fools Day 2009.

Now, five weeks into the beginning of the 18th consecutive year, the question is simple…

How much more writing do you have to do, want to do, need to do?

Don’t know.

What i wish for today, mind

This morning when i call Paul and Ree, i wish for Grace, surrender, and compassion.

How long will we talk?

Will i be a good friend?

How will i know the answer to both questions?

i asked Ree yesterday if it would be a good idea to talk privately before a call with her and Paul.

She didn’t think it was feasible because of Paul’s current state.

Actually, we we’re gonna talk yesterday morning and she said the day didn’t start out good could we do it today. Obviously, i said yes.

Praying for Earth, mind

Artemis II is returning to Earth after sending humans farther from Earth than ever before in history.

Artemis II traveled around the Moon and lost contact (it was planned for) with NASA for a brief period.

Extraordinary accomplishment in human history.

And as i type this (4:10pm April 7, 2026) we are three hours and 50 minutes from our President’s Iranian-peace-deal deadline.

Praying for a world-wide growth mindset.

A closed mindset is pessimistic.

Growth mindset is optimistic.

We desperately need optimism.

Planned freedom, mind

mountains
Not far from Granite Park Chalet. Oberlin is in center horizon.

Planned freedom.

Heard the phrase “planned freedom” yesterday listening to Michael Eisner talk about the summer camp he attended growing up. His father also attended. Michael’s three sons attended. The camp is 100+ years old now. The 2005 recording, called ‘Camp‘, was recorded by Disney Records.

A legendary Camp Director built ‘planned freedom’ into every camper’s daily schedule.

This unstructured time’s origin stems from the belief that young people – boys in this example -need time to follow their interests. And camp allowed for many choices of activities, or, no activities at all. Perhaps, instead, opting to play cards back at their tent with friends.

The goal was to let each camper exercise their own agency with their ‘unplanned time’.

How they planned it was a freedom centered on self-discovery.

‘Unplanned freedom’, in my opinion is what (potentially) leads adults to a growth-mindset lifestyle.

And a growth-mindset lifestyle, from the magic of doubling in my opinion, leads to a freedom only mental vibrancy provides.
