What about your Summer?

Grinnell Lake
Grinnell Lake from the Grinnell Glacier Trail, 2019.

In the midst of Covid-19 lock down, there are several lifetime firsts, here’s the situation at home:

  • Cheryl home constantly (retired last month)
  • Chapin home constantly (college closed until Fall)
  • Literally unemployed until conferences resume
  • Rainy day fund is sufficient to sustain normal life
  • Mandatory home quarantine for 2 weeks, minimum

While a majority are scrambling, many frantically, with their business, that is not happening here at home.

It is, as stated yesterday, a childlike opportunity.

  • Little responsibility
  • Ample time
  • Abundant creativity
  • No business pressure

Will this lead to something Magical?

Naturally curious

Squat and watch a bee on a flower. Last time was?

Naturally curious as children.

As we age we keep learning new things and eventually we become generally rigid.

New information, readily available, easily accessible.

At some point as adults, particularly at the height of adulting and career, we lose our edge, our desire, our thirst for knowledge.

Our quest to understand is replaced by the comfort of hitting life’s pause button.

Except for people like you my friend.

You defy odds, you remain steadfast, and you set the example for continuous improvement.

Rock on.

Our world needs more like you.

Your family and close friends, they have a front row seat to watch ‘living like you mean it’.

Why are you acting your age?

Disney Cast t-shirt
Yesterday at Disney University to mentor someone. What a childish tee shirt. Don’t you just love it?

morning victory
Morning victories are under-rated. Tim Ferris, above, will send you his 5 things if you click through. My challenge to you – make your own list. Own it. Change it when or if it becomes irrelevant. But own it. Stop using someone else’s recipe.

Why are you acting your age?

Because.

It was pounded into my brain as a child, and for some, even into our teen years.

Act your age.

Classic.

Parent to child.

Kids never want to act their age.

Regrettably, adults start acting their age at some point in their lives and never turn back. (of course, being drunk changes the math, but being drunk is not being in control – so it doesn’t count)

When was the last time you ran across the room with your arms out proclaiming, “Look at me, I’m flying.”?

When was the last time you climbed a tree?

i hope it was recently.

MidLife Heartbreak?

Spirit
Spirit

Midlife heartbreak or midlife opportunity.  Pretty simple.  Two choices.  You get to pick one.

If you and your spouse (and yes, want to acknowledge some readers will not be parents), worked hard all your life and played by the rules, and you gave birth to a child without eyes and never able to walk, which would you pick?

Mid Life heartache or mid life opportunity?

Well, there was a Family that had to make this choice.  They were featured on ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition as well as numerous other media pieces, including a heartwarming You Tube Video feature, about 6 minutes long, available at the end of this post.

One of my “secrets” to unspeakable  joy is the daily effort to read, listen, watch, experience, think, do and reflect on the countless blessings that surround my ordinary life.

You have all these blessings too.  But in order to feel the Peace and Contentment that are the fruit of these blessings, you must become fully aware.

You must become willing to invest time everyday.  Even if it’s only six minutes. Will today be another day to postpone your new beginning?

If it’s not, click here.
