Disruption and non-traditional are synonymous

Apple Notes App
Yesterday, this photo is a real example of me taking notes while Gary walked me through it.

Yesterday included an opportunity to visit the Apple Store for a one-to-one session with Gary. Gary is an amazing resource for not only everything Apple, but also well beyond the boundaries of Apple technology.

i take many photos on a daily basis. Often, i use photos to take notes, so i was looking for hacks to store these “Notes” photos in contacts.

Learned from Gary that you can’t in contacts but you can with Apple’s Notes app.

This led to Gary sharing some fascinating information about how photos are being used in disruptive (untraditional) ways. Most photos these days never get printed and never end up in a scrapbook. Most are taken to be shared digitally. And they are even used as a substitute when someone texts, “What are you doing right now?”.

Had this crazy idea driving home from Apple that i’ll share on the fourth blog (jungle jeff).

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

This website is about our mental attitude. To easily and safely leave this site to read today’s post on jeff’s physical health website, click here.

When a refresher refreshes you

Apple Magic Mouse
Bought an Apple Magic Mouse at the Apple Store last week.

What constitutes magic and how can one be sure when it happens?

The Apple Store group training class was for iCloud Basics. Counting the instructor Adam and two other Apple employees stocking shelves, there were seven of us in the store just before 8am. It would be another two hours before the store opened to customers.

As Adam was setting up, i walked over to the accessories wall and pulled a Magic Mouse down, walked back over to the class table and used my Apple Store App to purchase it. The three other Apple customers must have wondered what i was doing as i opened the box and began using the mouse.

Pretty sure that was magic.

Note: You do not need an Apple Store employee’s assistance to purchase many of the Apple Store products. Game changing.

Insight: This Apple Store example inspires and challenges me to think about creating Magic for my clients. If we aren’t thinking game changing, we are thinking too small.

Miss you guys

Missing Randy and Steve today.

Will get to why shortly.

When you retire from Carnegie Mellon University, you get to give one last lecture.

Randy Pausch retired in 2007 and gave his final lecture.

A New York Times journalist, Jeffrey Zaslow, published the highlights. A You Tube video of the same lecture later went viral.

Randy retired because his days were numbered.

Watching the video in the Fall of 2007 helped change my life.

And a few days ago, stumbled upon this 1997 Apple confidential video. At the time it was recorded, Steve had been back for about two months.

Steve is speaking to Apple’s internal leadership team. He shared his vision.

The video is 16 minutes. Sorry. Sometimes, there are things we cannot afford to miss. This is one of them.

Backstory for where this is going: Agreed to meet a potential client at Columbia Harbor House at Magic Kingdom during Spring Break. Tables are at a premium during Spring break. I arrived early to pick out a table in a quiet spot. He was running late so i decided to eat lunch without him.

When he finally arrived he asked, “What are you really good at? Think about it while go order lunch.”

“I’m really good at thinking differently”, was the spontaneous reply. He had not even pushed his chair in and he had the answer.

He asked a question all of us should be able to answer instantaneously.

Can you? Right now? Like you were talking to a CEO who can green light a big contract?

One of the main points Steve covered was Apple’s new marketing campaign.

Coincidence?

Remember, the video is old. It will be temping to get frustrated midway when the audio isn’t synched with his lips. Go with it.

Today, July 25, Randy has been gone eight years.

Thank you Randy and Steve.

Some people’s lives have been transformed by the inspiration you two created.

Miss you guys.

PS. Went to the “big meeting” in cut-off jeans and a tee-shirt.

It’s such an insignificant question isn’t it?

Apple iPhone 6 makes front page news

(photo: Just a moment in time two days ago)

What do you get when you combine 9/11 and five days until Christmas?

It’s such an insignificant question isn’t it?

Who cares.

Sucking the marrow out of life is something that only happens in movies like this.

If we could live fully alive, what would that sound like, feel like, look like, taste like?

We poison our souls so slowly we never notice.
