Disney’s modified authenticity

Great escapes
Can we architect a life that doesn’t require escaping? Absolutely.

Forced perspective and guiding the guest experience are two ways we modify our Guests’ experience to significantly enhance their vacation.

On Main Street USA for example, we make a two-story building look like a three-story building.

How?

The first floor is 7/8 scale. Second floor, 5/8 scale, and third is 3/8 scale.

We have the perception of a tree-lined street on Main Street. In reality the Live Oaks (100′ wide and 60′ tall full grown) are trimmed like giant bonsai trees – so they never block the view of Cinderella Castle.

There were no concrete main streets in 1901 (the time period Main Street reflects), but with the addition of the trolly car rails you never like about concrete (and how “fake” the setting is).

#Hope

Hope is a great strategy but a poor tactic.

Attitude is hope’s super power.

Great Disney leaders focus on four world class leadership basics

Disney Institute van and bus (from where this photo was taken) will make the next left and park behind Main Street USA. Why? To tour upstairs and “downstairs” (the Tunnel).

Great (Disney) leaders focus on four world class leadership basics:

  1. Vision
  2. Involvement
  3. Accountability
  4. Commitment

Find solace in a noisy world that this is truth.

Your midlife triangle

Busy intersection near Walt Disney World

It’s a chronic situation.

At least it was for me.

When will we get our proverbial sh!t together?

Probably never.

Unless we embrace this deceptively simple framework.

Your midlife triangle is made up of three sides.

  1. rethink
  2. reprioritize
  3. recommit

It’s that simple and it’s that’s difficult.

As we rode bikes to school yesterday we crossed three major intersections near Walt Disney World. It was morning rush hour.

Told our son that most drivers are so distracted because they’re in a such a hurry that it’s the equivalent to being drunk.

The past two days have each netted me almost getting hit by a harried driver when we have had the right of way to cross the cross walk.

The way to stay positive is reliant on four things

Orlando Keynote speakers

(photo: Are we capable of being a personal positive attitude hotspot for others to get energy from?)

Whether we are retired or not, the way to stay positive is reliant on four things:

  1. The things (books, blogs, articles) we read
  2. The people we associate with
  3. The things we write (social media comments, blogs, emails)
  4. The things we watch and listen to (tv, music, internet)

Pretty simple. These things are in our control.

Be intentional or be subconsciously miserable.
