A debt of gratitude list

Old Harbor Montreal
The small yellow image, a walker, caught my eye.

Montreal war veteran memorial.
Closer inspection revealed a military tribute monument. Two days prior was Remembrance Day (Veteran’s Day in America).

A debt of gratitude:

To my wife, for covering the home front, solo, for three days.

To our son, for, well, just being a son, and a studious ninth-grader.

To Lee Cockerell, for his referral; otherwise there would not have been a Montreal trip.

To Manon Richard for being a superb event planner. Superb.

To Michel for guiding me the entire day and having me want for nothing. Remarkable.

To Westin and Delta for doing what they do so well.

To our Military, for providing safe passage in North America.

To God, for the blessing of having a purposeful way to contribute to society.

Editor’s note: The above list was started yesterday during a two-hour layover at JFK airport. Little did i know as i wrote about “safe passage in North America” that hours later tragedy would hit Paris.

Stunningly beautiful and shockingly harsh

Sunrise near Disney World
Yesterday about two miles into a 10 mile run.

Residential construction near Disney World
Yesterday about eight miles into a 10 mile run.

Yesterday, after spending the typical first two hours of the day before sunrise in writing, reading, and reflection mode, i then proceeded to begin the three-times-a-week run. Yesterday i chose Disney’s Contemporary Resort as the turnaround (midway) point.

The sunrise was glorious as seen in the first photo. As you navigate through the other four blogs, you’ll see and hear how this ordinary day was both beautiful and harsh.

The second photo hints at how long i was out and about for the morning run.

There’s a reason you felt that way

Yesterday, a water station.

You felt a certain way the last time you did something that was brave, generous, and important.

There’s a reason for that.

What if you couldn’t recall the last time it happened?

Today is the 2,329th consecutive day of writing five different blogs.

Can you recall the last morning where you were dreading waking up?

What if you couldn’t?

i cannot recall the last time i wasn’t looking forward to the day ahead with childlike entreprenurial excitement.

There used to be a time (15 consecutive years, 1984 – 1999) when it took three separate alarm clocks (none with the real time, and all with extra time added to the actual time) to wake me up – after numerous, repetitive hitting of the snooze buttons.

Faith is more elusive than hope

Had hoped for the final Sanibel sunset to be spectacular last night.

Stormy weather is common during Florida Summer afternoons. Sometimes this extends into the evening. Last night was one of those nights. But just to be sure, i walked down to the beach to double check. The first photo convinced me there would be no decent sunset. The second proved me wrong.

Faith and hope are pretty cool.

Hope is easier to have.

Faith is the tough one.

We can control our hope, but faith is tested by the things we can’t control.

Glorious news…

Finally received notification yesterday that our first choice (of three) for High School is confirmed.
