Blindsided by midlife?

One of Mid Life Celebration’s biggest advocates shared a copy of the book with a small business owner. The business owner is a very busy person (like the rest of us).

His comment was (paraphrased here): “The author doesn’t live in the real world.”

First thought?

What world does he think the author lives in?

The reason people can’t achieve balance?

Disney Executive Speakers
Last day teaching at Disney Institute was Oct 29, 2015

There aren’t many experts.

But there are some.

Experts become experts because they have fought to win a rare, and regular, intimacy with something thought to be a myth.

The reason people can’t achieve balance?

It’s because their definition is wrong.

How do i know?

Three decades at Disney, searching for a balance role model, none were found.

And 15 years ago on the verge of becoming a father, i decided to begin the slow and steady process of becoming the change i wished to see.

Balance isn’t just about work and home life.

Balance also isn’t simply about mind, body, spirit.

Balance is about all five.

And balance isn’t about time.

It’s about energy.

How intentionality teaches you

Horseback rider in Orlando neighborhood
While writing yesterday quickly captured neighbor riding her horse through our front yard.

It’s taken our entire lifetime to get to this day called today.

When we live intentionally, everything becomes our teacher.

Everything.

Paying attention can only happen when we slow down.

Slowing down is not socially promoted or even remotely possible in today’s world.

Is it?

Give up or slowly work on slowing down.

Shedding, purging, letting go, simplifying, pausing to sit – and listen to our own breath.

Always leading is a form of codependency

(photo: Took a run near a park… caught a fairly rare photo… both of these required one thing – time)

The frail, elderly man in the wheelchair who can barely walk…. is he strong or weak?

The middle-aged men or women racing from one life activity to another… are they strong or weak?

How do we know for certain in either case?

Decided to keep it very casual this visit.

Don’t want every meeting to be predictable. You know… thinker, deliberate, driven, determined, etc.

And don’t want every meeting to be driven by the same person.

Ever been too tired or too busy to fulfill solemn promises?

Has Midlife Celebration ever been too busy or too tired to write?

Been close on a time or two in the past 1,900+- days.

Right now, in Kalispel Montana is as close as it’s ever gotten.
