Happy New Day

Ordering HomePods
Upper right corner. Awoke at 2:55am to buy at 3:01am (12:01am Cupertino time). Tried unsuccessfully for 20 minutes.

Happy New Day.

Can you hear yourself saying this?

i shoulda.

i coulda.

i woulda.

i’m a simple person.

(ps. you’re still talking to yourself…)

i work hard.

i sacrifice.

My goals are pretty lofty.

A fair amount of my family, friends, and colleagues don’t get why i work so hard.

The goal?

To win.

Win what?

Victory over my old self.

Metamorphisis.

To journey through life, preparing for the next leg.

To do what you need to do today so your tomorrows are better.

We thrive or we survive.

Life is fair in that it is unfair to everyone.

Celebrate.

Go.

The predestined path to settling is calling us

Executive coaching
Executive coaching article from Harvard Business Review. Common sense, but not common practice, especially for CEO’s.

It’s fascinating, to me, how easy it is to follow the herd mentality – to accept a predestined path of settling.

We settle for the tried and true path of the Herd Mentality; which settles for  surviving versus thriving, because society overwhelmingly believes balance is impossible.

So we medicate, entertain, and distract ourselves.

Thriving is best left to the lucky ones.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Thriving strategies and tactics learned from a life at Disney

Top New Years Resolutions
Being fit and at a vibrant body weight, plus living life to the fullest – what if that was us?

Personal leadership is the most important, mission critical strategy for thriving in life versus surviving. Self-discipline is the key tactic in accomplishing this strategy.

There is nothing more important than being crystal clear on what your goal is.

For instance, my goal is to be an example for our son, rather than a warning. An example on how to age in a healthy, balanced way, and live with peace and contentment in spite of life’s never-ending hardships challenges.

Then be unwavering in your commitment in building, and lifetime maintenance of, a foundation based on:

  1. Impeccable honesty
  2. Behaving admirably
  3. Personal responsibility
  4. Self-control

We either work hard to be self-disciplined or we work hard recovering from poor self-discipline.

So many people, so much surviving…

Team Disney building
About 15 minutes into yesterday’s 10-mile Disney run.

So many people, so much surviving…if each of us conducted a simple survey for a couple days would it reveal a life-changing epiphany?

Spend the next few days (two to four at the most) casually asking the people you come across this question:

Would you say you are closer to thriving each day or surviving each day?

Then ask yourself the same question.

And decide if you are good to go with your answer.

The simplest notion is that we either thrive or survive

Disney's Beach Club Resort lobby
Disney’s Beach Club Resort lobby yesterday before sunrise.

The simplest notion is that we either thrive or survive. Two simple choices that are challenging no matter which we decide to focus on. (click to tweet that)

Choosing not to do the hard work to thrive, means we have defaulted to the hard work of survival.

What we accept be default becomes our standard.

PS. It’s hard either way.
