The stuff no one tells you

The stuff no one tells you.

It all sounds so good – i mean, the stuff they tell you – which sounds like streets of gold, and glorious shouting from the rooftops with the Queen’s royal trumpets wafting a siren’s song.

Try publishing a book and you’ll get pitched a long list of amazingly helpful products to help you promote your book. Things like creating a wonderful video book trailer.

Thing is, how are you going to get anyone to watch it besides your family and friends, even if it’s an amazing video?

Aha.

You desperately want to believe your book is special and that it will bring you the financial freedom and reputation you couldn’t catch in your corporate gig.

If only.

So you get sucked in with all the hype and dreamy possibilities.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

The day began like the day before

The day began like the day before…

Like every morning, yesterday’s began with the same two-hour writing investment. Five differently-themed blogs on five separate websites.

i write so prolifically, not because i have to, or feel a need to have followers, but simply because i enjoy writing and and because it makes me a more intentional, more focused thinker and doer.

Good morning DC

Forget about what the world needs for a minute – what do YOU need?

Let me start by sharing that daily writing is exceptionally cathartic.

Good morning DC.

i’m not here because i want to be, i’m here because i’m doing a favor for a friend.

No harm, no foul.

He’s the CIO of the 5th largest medical (in their specialty) practice in the United States.

He recommended me to his CEO and the CEO wants me to meet the top eight executives and provide a one-hour executive overview.

As a small business entrepreneur, time is precious. Investing time usually has an economic outcome. This one has potential, but doesn’t come with a guarantee.

The remaining four posts today will continue this train of thought.

Merry Christmas 2015

Decided to walk yesterday to meet Kurt.

Merry Christmas 2015.

Ordinary days can be anything but. Especially when we anticipate (and expect) them consistently.

Yesterday, September 15 as this is being written, was a milestone day for Mid Life Celebration.

Met Kurt, spoke with Kurt, and was reassured he is a right fit.

What an awesome Christmas present.

Marketing and sales are part of business. Thankful to have someone who can help with that.

By the way, i’d like to rename marketing and sales to awareness and engagement.

The difference in attitude is crystal clear

The difference in attitude is crystal clear. Imagine yesterday’s call with the CEO. He’s listening to the executive business consultant and determining if it’s a right fit.

It will cost the CEO a lot of money and what’s on the line is his corporate culture – the way his people interact with his cherished customers, and each other.

When the voice coming through the receiver is insanely positive, optimistic, and confident it’s almost too easy.

And the world class business consultant? He’s listening for the same things.
