Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa was home for six years

Disney's Grand Floridian Resort
Yesterday walking in for 7am meeting.

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa was home for six years. It was nice to go back yesterday. But it was weird to have a 7am meeting there. That hasn’t happened since 1999.

Reminded me of the those good old days, except for one thing – i was dressed in running shorts and a t-shirt.

Met a man that can best be described as a passionate risk-taker. No, not Walt Disney. But a man with a dream nonetheless.

What’s missing is an attitude of defiance

Disney Conference Speakers
i launched my small entrepreneurial business while finishing the final six years of a 30 year Disney career. “Don’t quit your day job” was a great strategy.

The more i talk with people who have big dreams of breaking away from the corporate path, the clearer this reality becomes.

Self-help gurus, and how-to gurus literally prey on these people.

How do i know?

Ask anyone who’s worked diligently to follow the guru’s recipe and put all the “must haves” in place, “How’s your business going?”

Few will proclaim, “Amazing. Beyond my wildest dreams.”

The missing piece, as i see it, is an attitude of defiance.

Defying conventional wisdom and .thinking .differently

The harsh reality is you have to differentiate yourself from a sea of “pick-me’s” in order to secure your (remarkable) place in the market.

It’s in the fine print of all the guru messages…”This won’t work for most people. Proceed at your own risk.”

Yesterday’s morning office, including leather chair.

At the last minute, was able to rearrange my day to accommodate meeting a client at Disney’s Magic Kingdom.

Wasn’t planning on having an office chair with such a stunning view.

This is like inspiration overload.

Dear Son, i want to spend time with you before you leave

quote about struggle
From someone’s Facebook update yesterday. Quote from Ralston Bowles.

When you dream, where do you draw the line on what you want to accomplish, personally or professionally?

In 2008, i dreamt that i could take a huge risk and leave a top 10 most admired company in the world to go out on my own and make an even bigger impact on the world.

Dear Son, all i want you to remember is that being intentional, focusing on balance, doing work (art) you love, doing work that benefits others, being ready when serendipity crosses your path, and being constantly grateful – this is the best recipe for peace and contentment.

For six years i didn’t quit my day job so that i could build a schedule that focused on you and Mom.

And now, with the eighth year (as an entrepreneur) one month away, i can see light at the end of the tunnel.
