In a world where you can be anything

Optimism
Be in full bloom.

In a world where you can be anything…

Be positive.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

No one can make you do this every morning

Orlando Sunrise
A few minutes ago, January 30, 2016.

Yesterday marked 30 years to the day for the Challenger disaster.

A few days before that marked three years since a friend took his life at work.

Almost daily, each of us is faced with world events and personal events that are painful and senseless.

No one is immune to this distant (world) and close (personal) pain and confusion.

We must greet the day with joy, hope, and gratitude.

Well, we don’t have to, and that’s the point of this post.

Playing it safe ruins it for ourselves

Residential average near Disney World
Neighbor’s new home is almost ready for the foundation cement pour. To have a beautiful home or a beautiful soul and only being able to pick one, which would we pick?

Playing it safe denies our desire to become authentic.

Denying our desire to be authentic poisons our soul.

Our soul and our attitude are inseparable.

Poisoning the soul means poisoning the attitude.

This is what i would do if i was dying

One of the reasons our hard drive (brain) gets corrupted and slows down our operating system (mental attitude), is the harsh reality that our lives are incredibly busy.

In an effort to defragment my hard drive i spend 30 minutes each afternoon sitting on a bench. About 30 minutes later, at 4:30pm, there’s a High School freshman looking for a ride home.

In the quiet and stillness of doing nothing but waiting, i think to myself, “This is what i would do if i was dying.”

The simplest notion is that we either thrive or survive

The simplest notion is that we either thrive or survive. Two simple choices that are challenging no matter which we decide to focus on. (click to tweet that)

Choosing not to do the hard work to thrive, means we have defaulted to the hard work of survival.

What we accept be default becomes our standard.

PS. It’s hard either way.
