Is it worth the discomfort of changing?

Is it worth the discomfort of changing?

To move from being positive most of the time to being positive all of the time.

Is it worth it?

Why would any of us deny ourselves the freedom to choose?

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Jump start your mental attitude the moment you open your eyes

Say this repeatedly to yourself upon awaking to jump start your mental attitude the moment you open your eyes,

i feel happy, i feel healthy, i feel alive.

Say it to yourself in your thoughts, or, if you are alone, say it out loud.

The repetition and ease of doing this will surprise you.

Great Disney leaders are proactive

Censorship
The worst part of anything, including leadership, is always going to divide people.

Great leaders are proactive.

Fundamentally, they act rather than react.

Profoundly simple, simply profound.

Good and very good leaders are more like managers – they’re great at (reacting) putting out fires.

Both leader categories live with deeply embedded habits.

The work leading to change rarely happens this week (or last week).

Unlikely too, that it will happen next week.

Why?

Because the work that drives change can’t happen now, or recently, or soon.

Why?

Because there are too many urgent things today. And there were too many yesterday, and if history has a way of repeating itself, urgent will prevail tomorrow (like it always does).

Urgent and change are strangers.

50 is not a bad time to change everything

The photo’s text is crucial for today’s context…

Disney creativity and innovation speaker
Felt like having some fun and challenging myself in a creative, never-done-this-before way.

While cycling home from the gym yesterday, had an hour (3x longer than promised) phone conversation with somebody i’ve never met.

He’s in his mid-40s and wants to take control of his work life and be his own boss and do something amazing and make a contribution to society using his skill set and experience.

Hours later, in the early afternoon, as i laid down to take a nap it hit me… i was exactly where he was when i decided to change everything and start a small business.

That was seven years ago.

i was 50.

Insight: Using age as an excuse or barrier to catching a dream is an unproductive idea.

From 5th grade to 50 years later

Back in the day.

There may only be one or two people today for which this is the right message at the right time…

An unsolicited book compliment from my wife’s 5th grade (1968) teacher.

Why is this important to share?

Because it’s risky.

Risky to think an opportunity would have been easy to share, but fear or apathy denied it.

Here’s an excerpt from yesterday’s email to my wife:

“The bonus I received from my visit (to see my wife’s parents) was a copy of Jeff’s book your mother gave me. I thoroughly enjoyed the book—I also like the format.

While reading the book I realized I followed many of the questions Jeff outlined in the five areas of life—mind-body-spirit-money-HQ . Maybe that is why I believe I did an ok job as an educator and in my personal life.

The section of “the fear of dying” was most enlightening and beneficial. In addition I have taken Jeff’s challenge to do “something great within 72 hours”. After finishing the book I started 3 challenges and I am much happier …More are planned.

Again, thanks for the impact YOU have made on my life..Because of you I kept in touch with you and your parents over the years….and now through Jeff you continue to have a positive affect on my life.. Not many teachers can say that about a 5th grade student they had in class over 50 years ago.

Best wishes for a healthy and happy New Year.”

i’m not selling books, i’m offering hope that you can love yourself the way you deserve.
