Prologue

Red day pack in mountains
Slow down to speed up. This is what slowing down looks like. Continental Divide, 2021.

Prologue:

Publishers offer pros and cons to prologues. When done right, lovely. When done poorly, why bother? So my mental debate is now settled. No traditional prologue. Why? Because nothing about what i write is traditional. Ever. With the exception of having a beginning, middle, and an end. That said, what follows is how i want to write this book. Every speech i give, every day i live, the goal is the same three objectives…

Have fun

Why do anything if there can’t be an element of fun involved? This is especially important with daily living. Because, it’s every day. Fun needs to be a habit. Day after day. Kids get this intuitively. Nature, the Universe, the divine or whatever you want to call it, gifts kids with fun. Fun incentivizes kids to repeatedly, excessively, use their bodies and imagination on their way to preparing to use these two vessels to navigate adulthood.

.think .differently

If two people think alike, we do not need one of those people. We already know how usual and customary works and what it yields. It’s the rest of the ideas and implementation that lead to ever better ways to have fun, think differently, and lean into discomfort.

Lean into discomfort

Over six decades on this planet have shown that comfort is a trap. i have transformed discomfort into a transformational catalyst. What if you did too? Make being uncomfortable your comfort zone.

Who is jeff?

Jeff devoted 30 years to help Guests have the best vacation of their lives. Simultaneously he developed Cast Members to honor and improve the Disney legacy of world-class organizational Vibrancy.

What does he do?

Jeff uses paradox, common sense, and questions to guide highly motivated business leaders to .think .differently about Organizational Vibrancy. Plus, he helps highly motivated people .think .differently about Personal Vibrancy.

Why does this matter?

Highly motived business leaders and highly motivated people often get stuck along the way. There are obstacles that make lowering the bar easy, even practical. Everyone knows that thriving is superior to surviving. But to say surviving is practical, is, well, disturbing to Jeff. Jeff’s self-mastery is a rare example of how to over-focus on the same things most under-focus on or ignore. If you comprehend the difference between surviving in a career versus thriving in a career, then you know the only logical path. Same with surviving or thriving in life. But if you don’t know how to thrive, you don’t know how to thrive. Jeff shows you the trail. But you’re going to have to walk it yourself. Every day. Habitually. Until you have no more days.

Context – 7 books Disney

Why do you need to write seven Disney Business books? Wouldn’t this book be sufficient?

No, this book is the big picture for Organizational Vibrancy. The other books offer a more detailed look at the blue prints.

Seven Disney Books:

  1. Leaders
  2. Employees
  3. Customers
  4. Reputation
  5. Improvement
  6. Greatest Hits (of 1st 5 books – this is that book)

Midlife Shakespeare

“What’s past is prologue.” – Shakespeare

What’s past is simply what got us to where we are today. I’m thankful for that.

What’s here and now, is what will be past tomorrow. I’m thankful for that too.

What lies in the future is the choice we get to make. Our story is being written one day, one moment at a time.

To be or not to be, I mean, to be thankful or not to be thankful, that is the question.

And starting tomorrow, December’s question is, “Am I joyful and do I spread joy?”
