Reunited after a 30-year absence

Cousin shared a quote i hadn’t heard, so i dictated it and texted it to myself at 6:59am yesterday.

Cousins reunion
About 30 minutes later, we parked our bikes to take this photo.

We hadn’t seen each other in 30 years and we couldn’t explain why.

Heck, Randy is one of only three cousins i have.

His older brother and younger sister are the other two.

Randy drove from Pennsylvania to the University of Idaho to pick me up and drive me home, via Seattle, Los Angeles, and New Orleans.

True story.

We were 22 years old.

It took a couple days.

Luck is when preparation meets Google keyword search

Orlando Office building
Met client at 7:30am yesterday.

The call came in less than 48 hours ago.

Didn’t answer it because it wasn’t in my contacts.

Forgot about it for the rest of the workout and later checked voice mail.

Played the voice message…

“Our “Disney Way” Keynote Speaker has the flu and can’t make our annual meeting, which begins at 9:00am tomorrow.”

Less than 24 hours notice yet only a 45-minute drive from my home.

Betting on lucky

Betting on lucky?

Most of us do.

But lucky never happens.

Well, it does happen…and something or someone goes viral.

But Facebook, Amazon, YouTube and Usain Bolt are a microscopic part of humanity and business.

And their luck was the result of a lifetime of focus and discipline.

The rest of us (all of us) need a much better plan than a lucky break.

Bank on a lifetime of focus and discipline.

Focus on the basics (mind, body, spirit, money, hq).

Discipline yourself to never waiver from that strategy.

What are the odds we’ll get a lucky break today?

What are the odds we’ll get a lucky break today?

i don’t follow sports. Used to as a teen, but no longer.

i do make a conscious effort to watch as much Track & Field as possible every four years during the Summer Olympics.

Big events like last night’s World Series game 6 finish often happen after i’m asleep.

Cheryl just told me (5:45am) the Cubs hit a grand slam.

Would have been cooler if they trailed by 3 runs.

Oh well, it’s still cool because the win (even without the bases-loaded grand slam) forces game 7.

i might stay up to watch that one.

Strange Magic

Disney University lobby
Yesterday while running, having fun with potential clients.

Strange Magic…

Not the song by Electric Light Orchestra from 1975.

A strange magic has flooded my thoughts with questions.

Questions about fear, opportunity, luck, obligation, and vision.

A few lucky breaks (strange, and magical) combined with a new year of setting (my) corporate direction have collided unexpectedly.

i’ve become busier – sooner than expected – and am overwhelmed with joy, yet faced with a new set of challenges.

Questions like:

  • How much is the content, and how it’s presented, worth?
  • Where is the value and price line that you will not go below?
  • How do i communicate and justify the value?

No one walks into an Apple Store believing they can negotiate the price of an iPhone or MacBook.

No. One.

Why?

Because Apple has set the expectation. Clearly. Most Apple customers understand Apple’s Magic and pay the premium. Those that don’t get it, move on.

This is where i’m at right now.
