The one thing about being an entrepreneur that is so cool

Disney Keynote Speakers
Less than 48 hours ago, i was working here.

Disney Keynote Speakers
Having fun and being creative is so easy as an entrepreneur.

The early days, weeks, months, and years are challenging. You don’t know if it will ever work. By the way, it took me six years before i had any revenue.

No one hands you a written contact guaranteeing your idea will become good enough to change your life and the life of those you love.

The one thing about being an entrepreneur that is so cool.

You can do whatever you want, whenever you want, for whomever you want.

Of course, there’s a catch – if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is – you have to be able to earn enough revenue to cover everything so you can continue being an entrepreneur.

If you solve that, you earn the freedom to do what you love and the ability to do what you love in a way that makes our world a better place.

Permission to try anything and everything

risk takers
Seth Godin made this. Outliers, misfits, crazy-people to the left. Risk-adverse, conformists to the right.

Doing routine, mindless administrative stuff (stuffing envelopes for a classroom activity) at work yesterday, a thought…

i’m no longer working to make a living, i’m working to make a difference.

This changes, and refines, my attitude about selling.

She who can walk away always has the edge.

Who doesn’t enjoy having an edge?

i am sitting on a current situation where two big opportunities are in front of me.

Both situations have CEOs who are struggling with the price.

No worries.

i can’t force someone to see value instead of expense.

And if it’s too risky for them, it’s not too risky for me – to thank them for their time, wish them well, and then walk away.

Entrepreneurs have no guarantees anything they do will work.

And they have their own permission to try anything and everything.

So cool.

After two years, i’m better suited for the ups and downs

International speaking cities
Yesterday’s client call to South America. Two airports for two possible engagements in one trip. The names are two airports i’d potentially be flying to.

After two years, i’m better suited for the ups and downs.

The peaks and valleys of starting a business can drive you crazy.

Wondering where the next paycheck is coming from.

And conversely, wondering what you did in your life to deserve so much reward.

It runs as extreme as love and hate, day and night, hot and cold.

Yesterday’s call to Columbia has me hopeful, but not placing any stock in the outcome.

Teaching Disney storyboarding to future leaders

Disney storyboarding
Two days ago.

Teaching a teen about Disney storyboarding this week. Reiterating simple insights from previous lessons.

In a few days he starts a class on Entrepreneurism at his High School. It is being led by Bob Allen at IDEAS. Bob Allen has a rich Disney pedigree.

Disney storyboarding is an exceptional tool to brainstorm and map out the story for anything; a movie, a new Disneyland Attraction, a vacation, a Marketing campaign, a restaurant concept, and of course, a book.

To keep today’s five posts short, this story continues on my four other daily posts. The navigation link is always just below every post on every site. (that’s a hint to scroll down a tiny bit further, and go)

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.
