What stops any of us?

Disney Speakers office
Reminds me how different this office looked a year ago. Photo from my office yesterday.

What stops any of us from living like every day is Thanksgiving?

The media?

Tradition?

What then?

PS. Happy (official) Thanksgiving Day.

Dear Son

Dear Son, life’s opponent is still a secret to you

Windermere Prep High School
Yesterday waiting to pick up a freshman from high school.

Often, in midlife, the game of life seems to be won by the opponent labeled conformity.

If everyone is following the path, the path must be good.

So we go through the motions, like everyone else.

Stick to the tried and true plan.

No harm, no foul.

Somewhere in midlife we discover that this was an epic deception.

Then, because we are decades into our life, there seems to be no hope of a comeback. We’re too established, too comfortable, and too afraid to change.

Unknowingly, we realize that silently giving up was also an insidious part of our adult conformity.

Dear Son, enjoy the ride as a high school freshman. Thank you for our conversation last night in the pool.

You are beginning your adult journey as many have before you and many will behind you.

However, i’m glimpsing a level of confidence and self-awareness that is blooming earlier in you than it ever did for me.

Conforming seems to be anything but your desire or goal.

No one teaches us to fight back anymore

America's Balance Experts

(photo: In 30 years, no role model appeared for balance… everyone works so hard and is so dedicated.)

This afternoon is the traditional Walt Disney World retirement party for a 30-year Cast Member. Looking forward to seeing if balance is a central theme in how people recall their time together.

The complete lack of balance in our lives is suffocating. But like living in high altitudes, we gradually get used to the thin air.

And while the view is stunning, the living conditions are harsh.

All the things that make life easier and more fulfilling are down near sea level. Closer to a warm, breezy, sandy, sun-soaked, palm-tree lined beach.

Balance.

Fight back.

Get some.

Get it all.

Everything you deserve.

And remember to stay hydrated, stay in the shade or wear sunscreen.

Silence perpetuates silence

Caribou Coffee employee
The shortest part of life is the part where we live it – probably as children

Silence perpetuates silence.

Not talking about being medicated, distracted, and entertained leads us to perpetuate the vicious cycle of the herd mentality.

We have a moral obligation to transform ourselves if we even remotely expect others to change.

We know this.

Mental fitness is tied to mental illness

Tombstone inspirational message
Is it really “never too late”?

Garbage in, garbage out.

Birds of a feather flock together.

If it’s to be, it’s up to me.

Phrases are life’s wisdom in bite-sized portions.

Today’s quick thought about our physical health is a click away, here.
