Commitment device

How do you keep your motivational fire going? How do you keep calm in the heat of a tempting moment? Photo: Yesterday, prepping for last night’s temperature dip into the low 60’s.

A commitment device allows your cool-headed decisions to not get destroyed by the temptation of your hot-headed desire for pleasure or pain avoidance.

Couple commitment devices i use:

  1. Being an example not a warning
  2. Consistently using compelling deadlines
  3. The long way is the shortcut
  4. Loving risk more than comfort

Drink up me hearties, yo ho

Just snapped this in our subdivision, roughly 7:15AM; blogging on an iPhone while walking to the gym.

Drink up.

To the future.

We cannot guarantee or predict our future, however, we can heavily influence our future.

How important is our attitude in framing up our future?

You don’t owe me, or anyone else, an answer to that question, but you do owe yourself the answer.

Cheers.

PS. Today’s post title is inspired by the awareness 60 days in advance that December 30, 2001 was the last day i drank alcohol – drink up me hearties, yo ho!

Life’s five big choices

Life’s five big choices are critical to your success – critical to your peace and contentment.

Sure, this t-shirt (above) from Disney’s Epcot Germany pavilion yesterday is funny, it’s also a statement about a person’s thinking.

Son, long-term peace and contentment is not found in alcohol.

PS. Son, common sense isn’t always common practice.

Happy Independence day

Windermere Prep High school
Arrived early yesterday for High School Senior walkout day.

Good, balanced choices offer stability and advantage.

Stability is gained by spending less time recovering from bad choices. This allows more time to make good choices and gain momentum and confidence.

You can capitalize on good choices as you can capitalize on good financial investments.

Good choices contain the magic of compound interest. The cumulative effect from small and consistent good choices pays huge dividends long-term.

Live for today, plan for tomorrow.

How glorious can a day be?

Marina Hotel Kuwait
Marina Hotel room view.

How glorious can a day be?

As glorious as you decide.

Only you control what gets decided, no matter what happens.

Is it easy?

Sometimes.

Sometimes not.

And sometimes it’s a little of both.

But it’s always your decidsion.
