Cats In The Cradle

It was hard wasn’t it?

How can you pick one single solitary song, when there are ten’s of thousands, if not hundred’s of thousands of songs to pick from?

So, after re-reading the list from yesterday’s blog post, it just hit me this morning.

Cat’s In The Cradle“, by Harry Chapin is my all-time favorite song.

Our son will turn out just like me. This song reminds me everyday to be careful what I say and do.

What about you?

  1. Jeff,

See, “Cats in the Cradle” is one of those “train wreck” songs for me. I love the song, but it is so hard for me to listen to. Yet, I listen on. It is one of those songs that truly effects my emotional state when I listen to it, because it “takes me there” and sometimes I don’t want to go there. 🙂

“Watercolor Ponies” by Wayne Watson has a similar effect. Reflecting on his children growing up as he looked on the refrigerator door at the watercolor pony art from his boys, he says, “Oh the pleasure of watching our children growing is mixed with a bitter cup of knowing the Watercolor Ponies will one day ride away.” It hits me hard. So well written, but so hard to take.

  2. Bob, I’m very intrigued by Watercolor Ponies and will listen to it as soon as I can.
Cat’s in a Cradle is really a daily reminder about how I should strive to behave.
    Chapin’s first name wasn’t an accident. 🙂
