What Song?

I Can Only Imagine
I Can Only Imagine

Here are the top five finalists, in no particular order:

  1. I Feel Good – James Brown
  2. Fruitcakes – Jimmy Buffett
  3. Netherlands – Dan Fogelberg
  4. Lifesong – Casting Crowns
  5. I Can Only Imagine – Mercy Me

This was way harder than I thought.  Anyone else struggle?

Oh, I almost forgot, you really don’t have time for this nonsense. I get it. Everyone is crazy busy.

January was supposed to be simple – Simplicity.  What the heck happened to simplicity?

I can only imagine.

  1. Jeff,

Those are all great songs! And I love the music of Fogelberg…again, he was another storyteller, which grabs my attention.

A couple of others that also grabbed my attention are (not necessarily in order):

    1. Baby, I love your way – Peter Frampton
    2. Hard to Say I’m Sorry/Get Away – Chicago
    3. When I Hear the Praises Start – Keith Green
    4. Elijah – Rich Mullins
    5. When God’s People Pray – Wayne Watson

This is very hard…so many songs, or stories…some draw me because they touch my heart. Others draw me like a train wreck – don’t want to see it, but can’t help but looking.

  2. Hey Jeff,

It came to me early this morning, laying in bed before the sun came up. Being a lover of Fogelberg’s music, Netherlands. And then I wasn’t quite sure if it described my life or described the way I wish my life was. But no matter, it’s the way I strive to live and devour each day!

I wonder which fork in the road Fogelberg decided to take. I always hoped it was sweet peace!

    Thanks for making me think!

  3. Bob, some of your songs I’ve never heard. But coming from you, they have to be meaningful. I hope to check them out on https://lala.com

Love the train wreck analogy (hate train wrecks, or any wreck for that matter), because it’s so true – human nature.

  4. Sue, hello and welcome. Thank you for your comment. When you say it came to you this morning, not sure what you mean. Did you just hear the song this morning? Or, do you have a Google Alert for Dan Fogelberg? 🙂

If I could only take three artist’s music to a deserted island, it’d be:
Dan Fogelberg, Jimmy Buffet, Led Zeppelin, Chris Tomlin.

Here’s hoping that Dan took Sweet Peace.

  5. Sue, tried to send a personal email to you, in addition to the comments here, but it came back undeliverable.

  6. Jeff,

I thought about the song question for 2 days and so many came to me, but nothing seemed quite right. Then yesterday early am it hit me, no other songs have motivated me through out my life like Netherlands.

I’ll check into my email, thanks for letting me know.

  7. Sue, wow, what are the odds, of all the albums, and of all the songs, that Netherlands would show up on both radars.

Many people only know Fogelberg’s top 40 hits. Thanks for clarifying.

  8. -It’s Amazing- Aerosmith
    -Dreamer- Ozzy Osbourne
    -Trip Through Your Wires- U2
-The Heart of the Matter-Don Henley
-It’s Raining Men- The Weather Girls (most fun song EVER!)

  9. Looks like we have ourselves a Rocker. Rock on Lorie.
Ozzy? Didn’t see that one coming.
Black Sabbath’s Paranoid (and Led Zeppelin IV) where the very first albums I ever owned.
Aerosmith was the first concert I ever attended at the Harrisburg Farm Show Arena.
They were touring off their second album (1976).
Ah, thanks for the memories. 🙂
