Why is simplicity so compellingly attractive?

Placing postage stamps upside down
The tradition (now a habit) of placing postage stamps upside down started in 1996. It was a way to say “i love you” to my dying Grandmother.

Why is it so challenging to simplify our life?

Simplify.

Simplicity.

Simple.

Doesn’t the very goal word personify simplicity.

How can simplifying be complex, difficult?

Why do so many people, and so many organizations, and so many countries struggle with this?

Why is simplicity so compellingly attractive?

Why is it so difficult?

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Overcoming the critics is not a theory

Muhlenberg College
A metaphorically lonely photo and a door that appears to be crying out, “Notice me”.

Are you quietly dreaming of 2016 being a breakout year?

Are you fully aware that no one cares what you want?

Overcoming “no one cares” is like time travel into the future…arriving at a dreamy state only to discover it is better than the dream.

Here’s what i mean…

No one cares that i’ve written five daily, differently-themed blog posts for 2,469 consecutive days. And no one cares it started as an impossible goal to do it for 100 days only, in preparation for writing a book. And no one cares that i left a wonderfully comfortable 30-year career at Disney to put a dent in the Universe.

Go, even if frightened, even if no one cares.

You care.

Right?

Let’s dissect this May 2010 photograph

Orlando based keynote motivational speaker
In this 2010 photo (l-r): My first book’s storyboard, desk against the wall, Macbook on desk, PC on desk.

Let’s dissect this May 2010 photograph.

The original vision for writing a book happened in 1979, as a college Junior.

Started the process for gathering the content to write a book during Fall 2009. Yes, that’s really 30 years later.

The storyboard pictured above completed by Spring 2010.

The book was written Summer 2013.

Only three people knew the book had been completed:

me • our son (13) • the publisher

The first copy went to Cheryl on Thanksgiving morning 2013. She was clueless that it had been finished and was astonished to learn it was actually available on Amazon.

About an hour or two later, i announced to the world (Family/Friends/Colleagues) that the book (and Kindle version) was now available on Amazon.

Entrepreneurial Faith

Faith. What does it look like, especially as an entrepreneur?

How about starting a business (while you already have a full-time career at Disney), and (faithfully) investing $1,000/month for 75 consecutive months before you make your first dime.

Yesterday was only the fourth speech in my new, solo speaking career. There are three more contracted days in 2015, for a total of seven speaking engagements.

Every speaking engagement has been a referral, a recommendation, or a former Disney client. Nothing has come from social media.

The reward for being a midlife warrior isn’t readily apparent

Great Dane lap dog
Try to tell the Great Dane he is not a lap dog. Try to tell ourselves we can be anything.

Second day back from the four-day Senior Assisted Living and Nursing Home visit. Wrapping up the afterglow, inspiration and insight with today’s five posts.

The reward for being a midlife warrior isn’t readily apparent. Bottomline reality is this:

Life is hard.

In nature, it’s called the food chain. Everyday, living things must accept their place in the chain and fight for their survival. Nature never takes a day off.

We can take solace in knowing our weariness from the daily grind is a gift. Or we can carry an unbearable burden if we see this as a curse.

Choose wisely.

Be fit. It’s the only way to thrive.
