The closer to death, mind

A critical slide in my signature Disney Customer Service Keynote. The slide summarizes the content below.

The closer to you get to death, the less you give a hoot what others think about the way you think and what you think about.

Why?

You finally realize you cannot control others’ thinking. Plus, most of us don’t know what others truly think — another late in life revelation.

Review: We live our life the way we want. None of us is gonna change who we are. (yes, exceptions exist)

To be clear, we probably have a few exceptional people we would actually change for.

So why stop caring what others think?

Because you’ll be dead soon and none of it will matter.

Two focus types

two water bottles with a post it note
Two water bottles. One is a gift to every Disney Institute (DI) class participant. The other is the one i took for three class days. Had no idea DI would provide a water bottle. This is an example of over-focusing on something as simple as hydration.

Two types of focus.

Over-focusing.

Under-focusing.

One is building a life with well thought out blueprints.

One is building a life without well thought out blueprints.

Blueprints leave nothing to chance.

Poor planning leads to missed opportunities, settling for less, and always wondering what kind of life you could have architected.

Blogging is fun

fear quote
This is an interesting thought.

Few things give me as much joy and inspiration as daily blogging.

Blogging is fun.

Hiking is fun.

Surrendering is fun.

Creative risk-taking is fun.

Hierarchical priorities are fun.

Five big goodbyes

Five big goodbyes:

  1. Disney
  2. Blogging
  3. Glacier
  4. Work
  5. Family

Perhaps those five goodbyes are serendipitously chronological?

Over-focused travel, mind

In flight to Atlanta now and wondering if i’ll have to go outside in the next four days.

Intentionally booked a mid-morning flight. This allows me to wake up like normal, with decent odds of eight hours sleep.

A 7am flight requires an extra-early wake up. This removes an 8-hour sleep off the table.

Intentionally booked a two+ hour layover. Why? This allows a buffer for flight delay challenges.
