Inspiration always starts as a seed

Inspirational thoughts
Real life…provide hope where it’s elusive.

Inspiration always starts as a seed, like three small ideas yesterday captured in a simple photo for posterity.

At Disney we say, it’s not the Magic that makes it work it’s the work that makes it Magic.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Why Dead Poets Society?

Dead Poets Society dvd photo
Received this yesterday in the mail from a former teammate at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. He’s currently an Epcot Custodial Area Leader.

Why Dead Poets Society?

Because when we worked together in the mid-1990’s, i worked hard to be an inspiring leader – to set an example for daily excellence.

Every single day, all day.

Twenty-years later, he’s still feeling it.

And in his kind, completely unexpected gesture, he reminded me that no good deed is ever wasted.

Authenticity (New Currency)

Inspiration addiction

Disney Leadership Speaker jeff noel
Demand of yourself one thing – original thoughts (and original action). Photo: yesterday at Epcot’s Le Cellier

Our biggest challenge is our addiction to new ideas. Like buying a lottery ticket, briefly, there is hope. We hope that learning a new idea will solve our problem.

The next amazing quote.

The next best selling business book.

The next class.

An MBA.

One question. How has that worked out so far?

Photo: During a client dinner at Epcot yesterday, we were discussing how culture is an organization’s most prized possession – and how most company’s fail at thriving. And they fail because culture is invisible from the inside, but blatantly obvious to the customer. And in that moment, an original thought captured first on a paper napkin, then photographed as a backup.

Balance (yeah right)

Simple gets over run by two never-ending tasks

Sanibel Island Sunset
First photo of yesterday’s Sanibel sunset.

The photo above was taken about half an hour before sunset.

As we age, and get further along in our career, many of the simple things that used to fill us with awe and wonder are replaced with deadlines and decisions.

Going to the beach is the mental equivalent to going to the hospital emergency room.
