Please forgive the straightforwardness

Today is beautiful, even if we are broken – and we are all broken.

Here’s how high i’ve learned to aim…

Here’s the simple choice we all face, everyday, all day.

Focus on what makes us miserable or focus on what makes us happy.

Focus on what we don’t have = miserable.

Focus on what we do have = joy.

Aim so high it scares you.

Will this day become memorable?

Age and youth collide

(photo: Not quite four, not quite 89. One learned to walk in the past couple years. For the other it’s impossible.)

A steady dose of, “Who cares?”

January 5, 2015. Will this day be remembered on April 15, 2015?

You know, the early morning part of saying goodbye to aging parents, the rental car return, the non-stop flight to Walt Disney World, the temperature change, the home inspection after being gone for 10 days?

Will the observations, conversations, fun, food, concerns, insights – will any of these matter in 100 days?

Attitude is shaped by three days

Orlando Based Disney Keynote Speakers

(photo: Had lunch at Team Disney building yesterday. And today, December 5, is Walt Disney’s birthday.)

Attitude is shaped by three days.

Yesterday.

Today.

Tomorrow.

What did we learn yesterday.

What’s on our agenda today.

What are our hopes for tomorrow.

Pretty simple.

Simple does not mean easy.

But it does mean simple.

In a perfect world

Group photographer

(photo: Group photo of college buddies and their wives reuniting 30+ years later, on a North Carolina mountain top home of one of the guys.)

In a perfect world, everyone would be happy.

Impossible?

We are in charge of how we view the world.

Many insist you can’t be happy all the time.

Hmmm.

Can we be grateful all the time?

The answer depends on our attitude.

Nothing more, nothing less.

It all comes down to attitude.

And guess what drives our attitude?

Gratitude.

It’s not rocket surgery.

But it does require tremendous focus and discipline.

Which also comes down to attitude.

Midlife repetition is the mother of all excellence or not

Sunrise looking west (instead of East)

(photo: Unusually early thunderstorm clouds at 7am… cut the run short to only one mile)

We’ve heard the first two over and over, but the third one?

If not you, who?
If not now, when?
If not at all, why?

Midlife repetition is the mother of all excellence.

Or maybe not.

Every dang day?

If we desire excellence, you know, thriving, then yes.

Neglect and excuses are the other (unintentional) option.

Daily habits either way?

Yes.

Never forget that.
