Disney Leadership Keynote Speaker
Five daily blogs about life's 5 big choices on five interconnected sites.
Personally exploit Disney business wisdom in your private life.
What?
Take dates, milestones, anniversaries, launches, holidays, and so on.
That’s what i did yesterday, April Fools Day.
There’s a story around me being a fool to think i could write five daily, differently-themed blog posts for 100 consecutive days. My previous goal for 5-a-day writing was two consecutive days.
Yet accomplishing that goal would provide much needed writing practice to write my first book.
And part of the narrative is how two previous, “No, this time i really mean it” writing attempts failed miserably.
And then there’s retiring from Disney on Halloween so i could say, “After 30 years at Disney, it was really scary to leave.”
Also intentionally chose December 31 (the biggest drinking day in the world) over January 1st to quit drinking. By the way, that was also my third, “No this time i’m really going to quit.”

Today’s five (short and pithy?) riffs revolve around a business deal.
Think of the biggest deal you’ve ever made and then image it compounded by being exceptionally bigger.
Two days ago, i was ready to walk away.
Too much stress.
Too little perceived trust.
Not enough perceived commitment from the buyer.
Not enough fun for me.
Yet enough potential to change an industry.
It was the serendipitous breakfast conversation that illuminated a new way of thinking about the mess challenge.

Simplify, simplify, simplify.
Make dramatic leaps in personal growth.
The long way is the shortcut, and slow and steady wins the race.
It can often feel like you move forward only to be dealt a setback.
What’s really happening is you are simply being reminded that the progress you have made with your structure and processes still has room for improvement.
Often, we overcommit, we do too many things others could do, we put off something that eventually becomes an emergency, and we hold too tightly onto things we can’t control.
Breakthroughs happen when we keep moving forward, when our efforts finally reward us with noticeable progress.
