First night, last night

Yesterday’s campus sunrise walk. The freshman quad in the distance. Our first night at home was normal.

Don’t fear death; fear an unlived life. None live forever; only a few come alive. Live like you mean it.

Wisdom consists of simple concepts.

Wisdom’s simple concepts are challenging to scale because developing wise habits and rituals demands the postponement of pleasure.

Postponing pleasure is never gonna make it on our “things-i-love-to-do-everyday” list.

The things you do everyday – you’re in charge of your choices.

Be ready

Be ready to go the extra inch. Every day. All day. Photo: Parking garage basement level.

Be ready.

For what?

To learn, to teach, to enjoy.

Opportunity is everywhere.

Over-focus on the same things you used to under-focus on or ignore.

.think .differently

Lean into discomfort.

Carpe diem.

You knew this day would come

Every parent with a child most-likely bound for college knows this day will come.

What?

College move in day.

Last night was our first as empty nesters.

It was our Son’s first as a college freshman.

Serendipitously, we have two extra days in a nearby hotel.

The first night at home alone will be brand new territory.

Excited (versus dread) for this new opportunity for growth and development, for the entire family.

If you could say one thing (mind)

If you could say one thing (mind)…

We love you.

Note: Having a “family” of five personal blogs allows an author to write without worry about likes, comments, shares, and subscribers. Writing what you want to write is freedom and joy.

What’s your next?

Freshman Quad.

What’s your next?

Son, for each of us, we should have a next.

Why?

An object in motion tends to stay in motion.

A positive attitude tends to stay positive.

A negative attitude tends to stay negative.

Perhaps our next is as simple and compelling as our next five minutes and the choices we make in those five minutes.
