Keep moving forward.

 

Dear Son, a tree does not grow overnight.

But it does grow.

Slowly.

And some years it grows faster than other years. This has been one of those years for you.

For the past decade we’ve been focused on honesty above any other attribute.

In 2014, we built on that for a total of four key life attributes:

  1. Honesty.
  2. Behave admirably.
  3. Self-control.
  4. Personal responsibility.

You have done well academically, and maybe more importantly, personally.

Be well and remain amazed.

Do we know what we do best? No, really, do we know deep down what lights our fire?

Watching this Ken Robinson TED talk, it hit me less than half way into his topic (education). The educational system is only as good as the teachers.

(Duh. But alas, knowing and doing are two polar opposites. And therein lies opportunity)

And the best teachers are not there to deliver content only, the best teachers:

  • stimulate, provoke, challenge
  • ask, facilitate, inspire
  • incite, encourage, excite

And what I’m adding, is that they teach as though their life depended on it.

Three underrated requirements for a positive attitude

Don’t you dislike when people make inaccurate assumptions about your personality? Who are they to judge us, right? They don’t know. How could they? It can be very frustrating for positive people to be labeled as lucky. Here’s an angle to consider.

The three most underrated requirements I need to stay positive, in priority order:

  1. Desire – ya gotta want it…bad
  2. Courage – you gotta “just do it”
  3. Practice – you have to do it over and over and over and…
