i liked being a little rusty yesterday

i liked being a little rusty yesterday. Left the house about 1pm for a Southwest non-stop flight to Louisville. Five-mile cab ride. Room service dinner. Ninety-minute after dinner walk.

Business travel…

Like riding a bike.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Walt Disney had a dream

Disneyland construction photo
First photo taken yesterday in the Fairfield Inn lobby…heading out for a run.

Just like Martin Luther King, Jr had a dream, so did Walt Disney.

America celebrates today by closing government businesses and schools so we may have a conscious reminder to what MLK’s dream meant, and continues to mean, to every American.

And in our busy lives, many of us will recall only one thing today, that we enjoy having a paid holiday.

How do i know? Just a hunch, because that’s how i treated it for much of my working life.

The transformation came when i began teaching others about the power of a compelling vision. That was more than 15 years ago.

2,400 bottles of beer on the wall…

Speaking of genesis (below), photo from yesterday at the Comic Book store.

Today becomes the 2,400th consecutive day of writing five daily, differently-themed blog posts…12,000 posts:

Mind • Body • Spirit • Work • Home

Prior to April Fools Day 2009, i had not gone more than three consecutive days, and had never written five posts in a single day.

The genesis was a self-imposed 100-day writer’s bootcamp.

The pre-genesis was the 1979 promise (as a college Junior) i made to write a book of wisdom “for my kids”.

An illuminated mind thrives on learning

Hilton Orlando
Yesterday morning, client meeting.

An illuminated mind, like an illuminated hotel, can be a joy to behold.

Learning is like light. And often, learning arrives at our doorstep when we practice exceptional listening.

Yesterday, our 60-90 minute meeting went 4.5 hours. It flew by. Mostly because of the wonderful and fascinating storytelling by the senior executive i was meeting for the first time.

Can’t remember the last time i was such a gracious listener. It was illuminating. Priceless really.

One of life’s most overlooked opportunities suffocates us

Disney Casting Center unique Disney door knobs
One good turn deserves another.

Midlifers at Disney's Casting Center
Creating Magic? Finally meeting after six years.

Why do we let what we can’t do stop us from what we can do?

How do you thank someone for their overwhelmingly remarkable demonstration of community?

One of life’s most overlooked opportunities suffocates us. And it happens so slowly, we don’t even notice.

We fear failing or embarrassment, so we wait and do nothing. This poisons our soul.

What if we simply did what we could, even if it felt small?

Because haven’t we been taught since childhood that it’s the little things that count?

Yesterday was unexpected proof.
