Our biggest struggle doesn’t need to be

Florida Wildflower
Rare Florida wildflower during yesterday’s run.

You know the whole notion of the serenity prayer? To be able to tell the difference between what we can and cannot control.

How’s that working out?

Here’s what i’ve discovered over the years:

My biggest struggle came from not working hard enough nor long enough to intuitively know what i can’t control.

So i hung onto the impossible-to-change stuff. A heavy emotional burden.

Hanging onto this was hell.

Letting go of everything i cannot control is bliss.

Came to find out i focused on what i couldn’t control so i didn’t have to focus on what i can.

Crazy. Stupid even.

Why else would i do it?

Do i still worry about things i cannot control?

The only acceptable answer is, “No”.

Does this sound familiar?

The opportunity of constraint

Random photo that sparked a logo idea

Our list of excuses is long. And creative. And of course includes the five universal hall-of-fame excuses.

The opportunity hidden in constraint is embracing and overcoming the lack of:

  • time
  • money
  • resources
  • education
  • experience

Is it a midlife crisis or a midlife celebration?

Up to each of us to individually decide.

Our decision to change or not change changes everything.

Everything.

Think like you mean it is a catch 22

Self-discipline definition
Photo taken yesterday during unplanned tour of West Orange High School 9th grade center. Faded, yet poignant.

Think like you mean it is a catch 22.

Both groups of people, those who focus on negativity and those who focus on positivity, think like they mean it.

So the obvious million dollar question is:

Which one brings more joy, more compassion, more gratitude?

Photo quote: Self-discipline, noun, the ability to pursue what one thinks is right despite temptation to abandon it.
