Time poor, mind

Fortune cookie saying
Time is the one thing everyone gets the same amount of each day. But days and years vary for everyone.
Small Florida bug black with red markings
Busy sure, yet capable of noticing the smallest of details in the grass (then mulch). A small black beetle with tiny orange spots.

Am i time poor? And, does it even matter?

Time poor is when you are so busy, you cannot afford to waste any time.

You are living without any discretionary time.

No extra time to do something that isn’t required.

All your time is spent in “have to do’s”?

Can you imaging having discretionary time to spend on “get to do’s”?

As i lean into discomfort this Summer, i want to waste more time than i ever have.

Wanting to spend time well-wasted.

Busy doing nothing.

Bug watching.

Sky watching.

Thinking crazy thoughts.

And so on and so forth.

Busy is not sexy, mind

Why is being busy not sexy?

Why?

Wait, you haven’t figured this out yet?

Dang.

Amateur.

Who wants to be around someone in a rush?

Who wants to be around someone who’s work agenda is more important than your relationship with them?

Letting go of posturing, mind

Disney Corporate Keynote Speaker
First thing i see on LinkedIn at 530am yesterday, circa 2009.
jeff noel's linkedin profile recognition
Most resumes, and social media profiles, are plain vanilla. From 2012 until 2026 (now) i’ve learned these accolades are suspect and carry no good news for me. Relief.

Is it possible to finally, for good, let go of habitual, societal posturing?

While working in a career it feels necessary. Mandatory even.

Why?

Societal norm.

But i’m not working (going on five months now) and i see things that no longer matter to me. Things that used to matter all day, every day.

Social media for one, especially LinkedIn.

Trying to keep up with the Jones. And FOMO.

But five months since my second and final retirement i just have no need to keep up. Nothing to prove.

Letting go of posturing is exhilarating.

Why?

If you need me to explain, you’re not ready to comprehend the explanation.

(and if you already know, again, you don’t need me to explain) (ps. Congrats)

Why?

Once you reach the life-stage where constant posturing is a non-issue, you immediately experience a relief you’ve never known.

We all dream of this relief, this freedom, but until it happened i was clueless.

Let my life be my medicine, mind

lotto cards
Gamble With Your Health?

Can i let my life be my ‘prescription medicine’?

Conventional wisdom, historical wisdom, common sense wisdom…

Take care of yourself.

Who on this planet doesn’t get that?

However, in some parts of our world, all that means is survival of the fittest.

Having said that, supremely grateful to live in a first-world Country.

It’s never lost on me, not for a single day, that paved roads and clean drinking water is a privilege many will never see their children enjoy.

Take care of yourself.

That’s how we started this post, and that’s what inspired today’s post titles.

A couple days ago had a six month check up with my urologist. At my request, we’ve moved from an annual checkup to a biannual checkup.

In our short conversation, we talked about my health and how i’m trying to eat my way out of having to take statins. Dr. Kata said he’s been on statins and doesn’t think they’re bad.

This is where today’s blog post titles were inspired.

Without missing a beat i said “ i want my life to be my medicine”.

There, now you have it.

Note: Our son has an incurable disease. He requires medicine. This post isn’t meant to portray that i’m oblivious to how medicine changes lives. Our family is intimately aware of how it does, since 2004.

How you do anything, mind

jef noel quote
We judge ourselves on our intentions, others judge us on our actions.

How you see problems, challenges, opportunities, is how you see everything.

Does this matter?

Is it important?

Yes and yes.

How you see everything is how you do everything.

Note: Not doing something is synonymous with doing something. Decisions come from how we think. Actions come from how we think. Action and inaction are both decisions, both actions.
