About Mid Life Celebration

Everyday is guaranteed to be ordinary

quote about balance
Balance should not be elusive.

Today, like every single day since April Fools Day 2009, five brief posts are offered up to relish the interconnectedness of mind, body, spirit, work, and home.

The purpose of these five daily blog posts is to warm up for the day ahead. To contemplate how we will balance our daily energy so we never feel unbalanced.

Everyday is guaranteed to be ordinary. Extra-ordinary days are up to us. Note to self: be an over-achiever.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Random (feeling lucky?)

Just another ordinary day

Orlando sunrise
Was compelled to climb out onto the roof.

Yesterday, a Saturday, began like every other ordinary day.

Like the 2,500 previous (and consecutive) days, i was up early to start the morning routine.

This includes two hours of reading, praying, thinking, and writing.

Along comes the predictable sunrise, but this one was different.

It compelled me to crawl through a window onto our roof.

Dear Son

Dear Son, in the stunning presence of nothingness

father and son bike ride
Last night we spoke about Halloween (in three days) being the kick off for ‘running’.

Dear Son, in the stunning presence of nothingness, with a Big Bang Theory rerun on the TV, last night became one of the best nights of 2015.

Why?

Because you and i talked about ‘nothing’ for an hour.

We both wound up lying on the floor just chatting about ‘life’.

Unforced.

Unhurried.

No agenda.

And i remember it like it happened 10 seconds ago – that moment when i closed the laptop, set it aside, and slid off the couch onto the floor.

It's All We Have

All we need to be gloriously ordinary are two things

Riding lawn mower near Disney
Yesterday, July 3. His second time on the mower. Another ordinary Friday morning.

Time has a way of tricking us into thinking the ordinary moments in life are to be rushed through so we can get to the good stuff.

The good stuff is the ordinary stuff.

And all we need is a present and grateful mindset.

But alas, we are too busy to focus.

Are We Simply Machines?

“One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men.  No machine can do the work of one extraordinary man”.Elbert Hubbard

What does it take to be extraordinary?

Is it reasonable to expect to become extraordinary?

Is it even worth it to try to become extraordinary?

What would extraordinary people say to these questions?

What would Earth be like without extraordinary people?
