First Principles Thinking – irrefutable truth?

Every once in awhile, the Universe offers you a clue that something you came up with on your own is actually something rare, and valuable.

Yesterday’s email included the daily dose of Hugh McLeod at Gaping Void Art.

It was a link in Hugh’s daily message that led to the screen shot coming up…

In the center of the screen shot below is the word-for-word phrase i use to tell others what’s different about my Disney Approach.

Deconstruct then reconstruct.

i’ve spent my life deconstructing Disney’s DNA and reconstructing it in brilliantly simplistic fashion.

This is the way i describe what 30 years at Disney, especially the last 15 teaching at Disney Institute has allowed me to make my life’s work.

First principles thinking is about deconstructing what looks complex and then reconstructing it in a simple breakdown of reality – let’s call it irrefutable truth.

Wrote 28k words last week according to Grammarly

Disney business books authors
Behind the scenes, work is quietly and steadily being done.

Writing changes people.

Only people who write daily understand this.

Wish i could impart the wisdom to everyone who isn’t prepared to do the work.

What a fantasy, right?

Start writing a little bit every day.

If you really want to live on the edge, publish every day.

Show the world what you believe in.

And be prepared for no one to care.

Be prepared for deafening silence.

And keep writing anyway.

It will either turn out worse than you expected or much better than you expected.

Sorry, but i’m not able to predict your results.

Wake up, think, read, write, dream

Disney Institute speakers
Wow, from 2010…stumbled upon it last night.

Cleaning (by deleting many) digital files yesterday and stumbled upon a 2010 email i sent Jeff James, then VP at Disney Institute. There was something in his two-minute voice message that compelled me to offer my assistance.

Up since 3am. Thinking. Reading. Writing. Dreaming.

Ask your team, who on our team does it more counter-intuitively.

And, um, click https://www.sethgodin.com/sg/blurbs.asp

I can help you.

Jeff James is the same Disney Institute leader i pitched the book idea to. “Imagine every business professional in every corner of the world, with their bookshelf loaded with a disproportional number of Disney Business books, similar to the way most homes have a disproportional number of Disney movies compared to their entire collection of kids movies.”

Happy third year of Disney retirement jeff

Temps dropped yesterday 25 degrees and nothing but clouds.

Drastic weather change from the past three days.

In the midst of adversity, expect opportunity.

Reminiscing on the 2008-2009 economic tsunami and the Disney layoffs that resulted, i distinctly remember feeling betrayed.

The layoff “formula” didn’t make sense to me.

i was also at the height of my personal feelings that Disney Institute had nowhere to go but up when it came to modeling our message.
