Letting go of what you want

Car crash skid marks
Last night at Disney Springs.

Letting go of what you want.

This could be the most challenging (the ultimate?) to-do item we ever tackle.

Accomplishing it brings a Zen-like peace. At least that’s what success seems like it would bring.

Not accomplishing a complete letting go of things we hold on to brings us a worry that is too difficult to bear.

The antidote, for which i am convinced, is to fully live each day – to not put off until tomorrow what we can (and should) do today.

In this manner, if we loose something or someone we have peace knowing we didn’t squander what we had (or who we had) while it was present in our life.

That’s all we can really hope for.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

It’s not about the money, even when the money is great

Refundable airfare rules
Our life is not eligible for a refund.

Sunset at Epcot with Monorail
Our days come to an end one at a time.

A great friend shared this yesterday:

“My 21-year old cousin had just been in a motorcycle accident and died twice on the table, but he miraculously made it. Then i get the invitation from you…everyone was happy at your retirement party. A few days later at my company’s (near Disney World, Time Share, obsessively money and numbers driven culture) quarterly breakfast celebration, no one was happy. That’s when it hit me that it’s not about the money.”

A blinding flash of the obvious only becomes obvious well into our life, usually decades into it.

The temptation is to rationalize that it’s too late to transform.

At 13 years his senior, was honored that he thought i could offer sound perspective and wisdom.

Things our Son (15) said yesterday

Father and Son at High School
Last night.

Things our Son (15) said yesterday:

  • You know what, you sound like a goody two-shoes.
  • You’re always smiling.
  • No, you didn’t embarrass me.

Sometimes as busy professionals, the gems are right in front of us, but we are too busy to notice. Here’s to noticing yesterday.

Entrepreneurial Faith

Faith. What does it look like, especially as an entrepreneur?

How about starting a business (while you already have a full-time career at Disney), and (faithfully) investing $1,000/month for 75 consecutive months before you make your first dime.

Yesterday was only the fourth speech in my new, solo speaking career. There are three more contracted days in 2015, for a total of seven speaking engagements.

Every speaking engagement has been a referral, a recommendation, or a former Disney client. Nothing has come from social media.

It doesn’t matter what we know

Something about this that says, “genius”.

To know is to do. To know and not do, is to not yet know.

Reread until it makes sense, and it will.
