The privilege of making mistakes, mind

Mid Life Celebration book
Wisdom comes from experience. Experience comes from making mistakes.

Is it a human privilege to make mistakes?

i think it is.

The privilege of making mistakes is only for people who act.

Why?

Intentional action leads to outcomes.

Outcomes lead to learning.

Learning leads to growth.

Growth is the essence of life.

Mental growth.

Physical growth.

Spiritual growth.

Growth at work.

Growth at home.

Unintentional inaction (which is an action), also produces unintentional outcomes. Not flossing contributes to poorer oral health than intentional flossing.

Taking risks, challenging societal, personal, and industry norms, these are the building blocks for progress, improvement, and sometimes, breakthroughs.

Note: There are exceptions to literally everything, yet i’d offer that no breakthrough has ever happened from avoiding risks.

Positive mental accidents

Disney keynote speaker jeff noel in his home office
Delivering Disney Customer Service Keynote speeches is my ministry.

For context let’s assume accidents and mistakes are synonymous.

Positive mental accidents (mistakes) are gifts.

Stereotypically, accidents are unexpected, unwelcome, painful, and costly.

Saying yes or no to an opportunity could create an accident (mistake).

In 1999, said yes to Disney Keynote Speaking and goodbye to a life in Disney Resort Hotel Operations.

Could have been a huge mistake (accident) to leave one career for another.

It was not.

“Accidentally” getting into public speaking revealed what i am born to do, teach.

Had no idea.

Found out by mistake, accidentally.

Successful failures

Good people are good because they’ve come to wisdom through failure. We get very little wisdom from success, you know.

Wisdom comes from experience and experience comes from making mistakes.

The timing was probably perfect

If I had to live my life again, I’d make the same mistakes, only sooner.

Tallulah Bankhead

Tallulah’s thinking looks great on paper. However, the Universe’s grand design uses timing that matches your: circumstances, your ability, your headspace and your heartspace. There is no crystal ball, no do-over, there is only forward motion – today and tomorrow.

Make your best mistake

Website blog links
There are only a handful of people who’ve been here for all six years.

We don’t have to be ordinary.

Make your best mistake.

Then do it again.

And again.

It takes tremendous faith and conviction to believe what we want to happen will happen eventually…

By making enough mistakes, we reach the point of discovering a breakthrough success.

Not only don’t we have to be ordinary, we don’t want to be.

Not anymore.
