College-bound in 8 days

College-bound in 8 days.

What is the purpose of college?

What is the purpose of a career?

What is the purpose of anything?

Ultimately, we each get to decide our own answers.

Son, a positive attitude helps you see the potential and privilege in all things.

Guard and nourish your attitude.

The final 120 days

Adventure of college
Photo library and this one caught my eye.

Dear Son, you begin College in 120 days.

There’s a new category on all five blogs (starting today April 17) to capture the reality of your final four months with us.

Obviously, no one can predict the future and you could very well spend a Summer or multiple Summers living at home.

There’s also the distinct chance you may not.

Adventure awaits.

Amazing days await.

PS. Every single day is yours to make amazing. You must define and hone what qualifies as amazing. Hint: That your eyes opened this morning, and you can see is a great place to start.

Popular metrics don’t work for the majority

Yesterday near sunrise.
College President
College President yesterday welcoming 120 prospective students (and 12 incoming freshman) and roughly 150 parents.

Reminded our Son yesterday that his early decision and acceptance (and incredible merit-based scholarship) in December puts him in a group of less than 10-percent of decisive and less-stressed students (and parents).

We (society) often use popular metrics.

Some High School students never make it in the top 10% of any “normal” and popular metric. This has the potential cumulative effect of inhibiting or eroding self-confidence.

The metric here (this post) is not one that gets talked about, unless you live with me.

Instilling self-confidence should be a top parental priority.

What’s your attitude’s grade for yesterday’s thinking?

Third morning with below freezing temperatures. Third morning in a row with college campus view. Third morning in a row feeling incredibly positive even though we are away from home.

What’s your attitude’s grade for yesterday’s thinking?

What other information about your son might be helpful for us to know?

He manages his incurable disease.

He manages his acne which cannot be alleviated with the best meds because of the meds he takes for Ulcerative Colitis.

He will not kill even the smallest insect.

He lives in a home that has 60+ years of Disney leadership experience under the roof, resulting in a lifetime of daily leadership and life-skills tutoring.
