The paradox of self-confidence

Disney Customer Service Speakers
Walt Disney…you know he had to be thinking, “What if this doesn’t work?”

The paradox of self-confidence is that most (all the ones i know anyway) confident people have a quiet, yet relentless, battle with self-doubt.

You’re only as good as your last presentation, your last race, your last prayer.

No one cares what you did in the past, if what you are currently doing isn’t amazing.

It comes with the territory.

Confidence is like a fire, without constant attention to adding fuel, it will dim and quite quickly, extinguish.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Being authentic could be addicting

Progress
After 25 years, the ground breaking yesterday, we are finally getting next door neighbors. i texted our future neighbors to share my excitement with them.

Being authentic could be addicting.

Why?

Because you never have to think about what you said or did. You are always leading with admirable behavior.

Or, as our Son recently said, “You come across as a goody two-shoes”. By the way, he said that immediately after reading the email reply (a promised agreement with John Jolin) i sent to John Jolin in an effort to take the high road and not get caught up in the negative press that has proliferated in the past few years.

i feel exceptionally healthy and well by always taking the high road. It does kinda feel addicting. Like sunny weather.

The three R’s are back in the spotlight

John W Jolin
John W Jolin…photo from my Internet research. Source unknown because i didn’t write it down and have no idea where to begin to find this exact snippet.

The recent (eight days ago, October 30, 2015) email asking for $7,500 in copyright infringement fees from John W Jolin of Linda’s Lyrics, has had me:

  • rethink
  • reprioritize
  • recommit

There is no way i can think of that could have avoided what happened. It was so utterly innocent and unknowing.

Live your life so that if anyone says anything bad about you, no one will believe it.

Inspiration addiction

Demand of yourself one thing – original thoughts (and original action). Photo: yesterday at Epcot’s Le Cellier

Our biggest challenge is our addiction to new ideas. Like buying a lottery ticket, briefly, there is hope. We hope that learning a new idea will solve our problem.

The next amazing quote.

The next best selling business book.

The next class.

An MBA.

One question. How has that worked out so far?

Photo: During a client dinner at Epcot yesterday, we were discussing how culture is an organization’s most prized possession – and how most company’s fail at thriving. And they fail because culture is invisible from the inside, but blatantly obvious to the customer. And in that moment, an original thought captured first on a paper napkin, then photographed as a backup.

Do you use the same shadow everywhere you step?

From one of my last Disney Institute multi-day engagements in 2014.

Are you the same person at work as you are at home?

Most of us think we are, but what metrics do we use to get a valid answer?

Mid Life Celebration’s four pillars are the same ones i use as a father.

  1. Be honest
  2. Behave admirably
  3. Self-control
  4. Personal responsibility

It’s that simple and that difficult.

Being honest at work is dangerous because there are so many insecure people in the workplace.

One misstep can damage alter your reputation forever.
