Twenty-three days and counting down to the 8th year

Advent definition screen shot
Advent is the arrival of something.

We see inspirational messages about how someone started doing something unremarkable but over time it actually became remarkable because the person is still doing the same thing.

In a Universe full of “i got tired of it and stopped”, there’s a chance that the arrival – advent – of the eighth consecutive year of writing five daily, differently-themed blog posts could be the start of something remarkable.

It never was, and still isn’t, the goal.

That’s probably the coolest part of the whole thing.

Not sure if i want to count down each of the next 28 days

Ever have a “How is this possible?” moment that coincides with another life milestone?

Not sure if i want to count down each of the next 28 days as this goes live (or, 128 days from now – as this is written). In 28 days i begin year eight of writing five daily, differently-themed blogs.

You get that what i’m writing today (Wednesday, November 25, 2015) stays in a to-be-published que for 100 days. What that means is tomorrow is Thanksgiving – and two years ago on Thanksgiving my first book was announced to the world.

Publishing a book on Amazon (and Kindle) was a stunning (and humble) accomplishment.

Once upon a time there was short and pithy

Once Upon A Toy Store
Couple days ago, heading to lunch.

Once upon a time there was short and pithy; five daily, differently-themed blog posts that were short in length, yet dense with diversity, insight, wisdom, and challenge. Like life, events happen that throw us a curve. It’s no different here.

Why do i still write five daily blogs?

weather 10-day forecast screen
Yesterday (27th)…and today (28th), one day after another…

Why do i still write five daily blogs?

Good question.

It’s been six and one-half years.

Every. Dang. Day.

Five differently-themed blogs.

  1. mind
  2. body
  3. spirit
  4. money
  5. hq

What if i told you i don’t know why exactly?

Except for this: It’s literally impossible to begin the day without this two-hour morning investment. As the saying goes…”I set out to change the world, when in reality i changed myself.”

Is it a lot of work?

Yes.

You know what else is a lot of work?

Spending a lifetime wondering about what could have been if we would have applied ourselves more, differently, better.

Better late than never is not always about change

Moose lodge sign
Last week in Valparaiso, IN. No one cares about this photo and that’s the coolest part of posting it.

Better late than never. A phrase we have heard since we were children. Why? Because it’s true.

It’s better to make difficult, positive changes to correct poor habits than it is to not change. Sounds backwards but it’s true…

Better late than never is not always about change.

Sometimes it’s about becoming aware of something that wasn’t fully understood – something that once understood, gives us courage and strength in a way we never saw coming.

Writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different websites) has happened every single day since April 1, 2009.

i don’t write for:

  • SEO
  • Followers
  • Fame
  • Sales

i write because it transforms me.

The transformation is facilitated by the illumination from a daily habit that is public and transparent – also known as accountability.

Without accountability we are sunk. And by accountability, i’m not talking about some bull crap theory-looks-good-on-paper accountability.

Accountability that is so easy to recognize, it’s impossible to hide.
