Zero-theory mental theory

What is zero-theory mental theory?

Let’s break it down, and remember common sense is a BFO (blinding flash of the obvious):

  1. Zero theory means no theory is used. For anything.
  2. Mental theory means ideas about mental vibrancy.

Now, let’s unpack those two bullet points:

  • The goal of education isn’t knowledge, it’s action.
  • Knowledge without action is nothing.
  • ‘Nothing’ isn’t a useful tool since no behavior(s) is applied.

Summary:

  • The only thing that equips you with a growth mindset is action.
  • To know is to do.
  • To know and not do is to not yet know.

Father of nudge theory won 2017 economics Noble Peace Prize

wisdom about questions
Taken during yesterday’s college tour.

Richard Thaler, Father of ‘nudge theory’ won a 2017 Noble Peace Prize in economics.

What would happen if our attitude about questions became more important than our traditional focus on answers?

For example, if we rethought our notions about college dormitory bathroom placement, could we increase freshmen retention rates.

We toured a college the past two days that has applied this behavioral science – nudge theory – to their new freshman dorm.

Logan Pass parking
Five minutes after we arrived, all spaces taken.

Highland trail entrance
It’s a deceptively easy trail entrance.

Highline trail
About 300 meters into and you realize the level of difficulty spikes.

Highline trail
You get used to it after the first time.

Highline trail
The first time can be scary.

Logan Pass parking
Not only are there no parking spaces, but tension mounts as people drive around.

Up early, again. Breakfast at Two Dog Flats. Parked at Logan Pass at 8:45am, just five minutes before all parking spaces were taken. Yes, early bird advantage.

The info-videos say arrive by noon. My goal was between 8:30-9:00am, with a primary goal to be closer to 8:30am versus 9am.

.

PS. 08.05 Friday, final day in Glacier. Breakfast at Two Dog Flats. Logan Pass at 845am (no spaces avail 5 mins later)…hike Highline trail a mile down and back. Who teaches us this?

Are owls wise? Are we?

Who teaches us this?

Theory is meaningless without action.

Knowlege isn’t power.

Knowledge is only the seed of power.

Power comes from action.

Taking risks is risky. So is playing it safe.
