Excited, confused, even baffled

Disney motivational Leadership Speaker
Yesterday, out for a 10-miler to Magic Kingdom.

Excited, confused, even baffled is how i’m feeling.

This post has been hard to write. i’ve changed the title and contents a couple times.

Why?

Not sure exactly. This never happens.

It’s the crazy excitement knowing that the most ridiculous milestone is only 100 days away. If i write just 100 more consecutive days, the seventh year of daily writing will be completed.

Maybe it’s because i can see that todays’s posts go live on the eve of that milestone day – April Fools Day.

i remember picking April Fools Day on purpose because i thought i was a fool to think “this time” was going to be different than all the other failed attempts i had at writing with consistency.

This was something i wrote down in the Spring of 1980 while at the North Carolina Outward Bound School. A reminder that the only limitations i have are those i impose upon myself.

If i never try anything, i never learn anything. If i never take a risk, i stay where i am.

Only four days from beginning the eighth year

Come April 1, 2016, this is how many blog posts i’ve written in seven years.

Ever do something that was impossible at first, miraculously accomplish it, but then it grew into something even more impossible?

Only four days until the beginning of the eighth year.

Seven years (2,557 days, including two leap years) of writing five daily, differently-themed blog posts equals 12,785 posts.

There are also 100 days worth of (500) posts that are written and in the que to publish. Yes, i suffer from writer’s flood. Some days, writing only five posts isn’t enough.

So in reality, i’ve written 13,285 posts.

Sick.

Impossible.

No end in sight.

Twenty-three days and counting down to the 8th year

Advent definition screen shot
Advent is the arrival of something.

We see inspirational messages about how someone started doing something unremarkable but over time it actually became remarkable because the person is still doing the same thing.

In a Universe full of “i got tired of it and stopped”, there’s a chance that the arrival – advent – of the eighth consecutive year of writing five daily, differently-themed blog posts could be the start of something remarkable.

It never was, and still isn’t, the goal.

That’s probably the coolest part of the whole thing.

Let’s dissect this May 2010 photograph

Let’s dissect this May 2010 photograph.

The original vision for writing a book happened in 1979, as a college Junior.

Started the process for gathering the content to write a book during Fall 2009. Yes, that’s really 30 years later.

The storyboard pictured above completed by Spring 2010.

The book was written Summer 2013.

Only three people knew the book had been completed:

me • our son (13) • the publisher

The first copy went to Cheryl on Thanksgiving morning 2013. She was clueless that it had been finished and was astonished to learn it was actually available on Amazon.

About an hour or two later, i announced to the world (Family/Friends/Colleagues) that the book (and Kindle version) was now available on Amazon.

Not sure if i want to count down each of the next 28 days

Ever have a “How is this possible?” moment that coincides with another life milestone?

Not sure if i want to count down each of the next 28 days as this goes live (or, 128 days from now – as this is written). In 28 days i begin year eight of writing five daily, differently-themed blogs.

You get that what i’m writing today (Wednesday, November 25, 2015) stays in a to-be-published que for 100 days. What that means is tomorrow is Thanksgiving – and two years ago on Thanksgiving my first book was announced to the world.

Publishing a book on Amazon (and Kindle) was a stunning (and humble) accomplishment.
