We are at the Magic Kingdom Theme Park entrance turnstiles

Disney Institute Keynote Speaker
What does the sign say? It’s really important in Disney history (and vision).

Yesterday i wrote about the Guest arrival experience in the 1970s.

We pick up today where we left off – on the Park side of the turnstiles – officially inside Disney’s Magic Kingdom Theme Park.

There are two tunnel-like entrances to choose from.

One on the far right and one on the far left.

And in between is the giant flora Mickey Mouse face, made from flowers.

This is an emotional greeting and a fantastic gateway to the other side.

You see, there’s an earthen berm around Magic Kingdom – a curtain if you will, to build the anticipation for a show that’s going to start as soon as you pass through it.

We started Walt Disney World with what we knew we could do

Disney Keynote Speaker
There’s Zurg (far right). Where’d he come from?

We started Walt Disney World with a foundation we knew we could replicate.

Build a Disneyland style replica, with a few modifications to make it unique enough to have it’s own identity.

Happy 47th birthday WDW

Disney Institute Keynote Speaker
There’s a process for these photos. This was the first picture at this location. Chose the Incredibles because Incredibles II just released a few weeks ago.

Walt Disney was trapped at Disneyland.

He never saw it coming.

One-hundred and sixty acres was 10 times bigger than the original “spare” land he had at his Studio.

The city council never approved his request to rezone those 16 acres.

They didn’t want a year-round carnival in their city.

Walt saw it as a blessing because his ideas continued to expand well beyond anything 16 acres could hold.

So 160 acres….oh my gosh…plenty of land.

Boy was he wrong.

After Disneyland opened in 1955, and as Walt kept dreaming, he told his inner circle to secretly buy up as much swampland near Orlando as they possibly could.

Never being satisfied is great motivation to improve

Disney Customer Service Speaker
It’s not the Magic that makes it work, it’s the work that makes it Magic.

Never being satisfied is great motivation to improve.

We are never satisfied at Disney.

The night we opened Pandora-The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Cast Members in every business unit debriefed what went better than expected, what went the way we planned, and what went not as good as we planned.

Why?

Because in 12 hours when we open for the second day, we want to immediately test for solutions.

As the second day unfolds, we’ll be monitoring if our tweaks make it better, produce no change, or make things worse.

At the end of day two, we debrief again.

This literally never ends.

Insight: Having this world-class level of expectation can insidiously put a drag on completing seven Disney Business books.

Who says this every day, “i am Disney”?

Disney Institute Speakers
From social media..i think this was in Canada and posted on Twitter.

Who says this every day, “i am Disney”?

Certainly, the Disney Institute Facilitators that taught this one-day course in Canada.

My wife Cheryl, who’s 35th year at Disney begins in September.

And of course, every Cast Member who ever was, is now, or ever will be.

And all of this presumes Cast Members worked for many years before retiring or moving on.
