Feel blessed by and grateful for the confidence you’ve developed

film canister
Dropped off at Walgreens yesterday – remember film? This canister is old. Will it contain anything to feed my confidence?

Feel blessed by and grateful for the confidence you’ve developed during your lifetime.

And know this confidence you carry is fleeting.

It comes and goes like the night.

Find a million ways to remain confident in the darkness.

Never take confidence for granted.

Never boast.

Always nurture and feed your confidence.

Walk humbly, and carry a big stick.

The paradox of self-confidence

Disney Customer Service Speakers
Walt Disney…you know he had to be thinking, “What if this doesn’t work?”

The paradox of self-confidence is that most (all the ones i know anyway) confident people have a quiet, yet relentless, battle with self-doubt.

You’re only as good as your last presentation, your last race, your last prayer.

No one cares what you did in the past, if what you are currently doing isn’t amazing.

It comes with the territory.

Confidence is like a fire, without constant attention to adding fuel, it will dim and quite quickly, extinguish.

Walt Disney was a demanding CEO. How could he be anything but?

Excellence does not fall from the sky by luck or by wishing.

Aha.

Just had the moment…

Had been searching for this for days, weeks even…

The reason i need to be so confident is because of the level of leader i’m working with, CEOs.

They do not want any room for doubt. They want reassurance. And even if you can’t guarantee something, they want to be guaranteed that a plan B will circumvent failure.

Dear Son, life’s opponent is still a secret to you

Windermere Prep High School
Yesterday waiting to pick up a freshman from high school.

Often, in midlife, the game of life seems to be won by the opponent labeled conformity.

If everyone is following the path, the path must be good.

So we go through the motions, like everyone else.

Stick to the tried and true plan.

No harm, no foul.

Somewhere in midlife we discover that this was an epic deception.

Then, because we are decades into our life, there seems to be no hope of a comeback. We’re too established, too comfortable, and too afraid to change.

Unknowingly, we realize that silently giving up was also an insidious part of our adult conformity.

Dear Son, enjoy the ride as a high school freshman. Thank you for our conversation last night in the pool.

You are beginning your adult journey as many have before you and many will behind you.

However, i’m glimpsing a level of confidence and self-awareness that is blooming earlier in you than it ever did for me.

Conforming seems to be anything but your desire or goal.

The daily battle between confidence and arrogance

Mid Life Celebration baby Boomer Keynote Speaker
Denver, Colorado last week.

The mental battle of mind over matter…

The marketing battle that takes place in our head between confidence and arrogance is brutal. It never ends.

On one hand, confidence is essential for great things to happen.

On the other hand, arrogance is like drinking poison.

The catch 22 is that the two can look like twins, even though they’re not.

And here’s what i’m learning as an entrepreneur: You have to constantly move forward. Success will not come to you. You have to (repeat, have to) go and get it.

Successful, optimistic people easily recognize confidence.

Unsuccessful, jealous people see arrogance, because it justifies their lack of courage.

i pray for both groups.

It is difficult to leave people behind.

Be confident in knowing that you are not hurting the ones left behind. They have already committed themselves to that position. It’s not your fault.

And it is also not arrogant.
