The reward for being a midlife warrior isn’t readily apparent

Try to tell the Great Dane he is not a lap dog. Try to tell ourselves we can be anything.

Second day back from the four-day Senior Assisted Living and Nursing Home visit. Wrapping up the afterglow, inspiration and insight with today’s five posts.

The reward for being a midlife warrior isn’t readily apparent. Bottomline reality is this:

Life is hard.

In nature, it’s called the food chain. Everyday, living things must accept their place in the chain and fight for their survival. Nature never takes a day off.

We can take solace in knowing our weariness from the daily grind is a gift. Or we can carry an unbearable burden if we see this as a curse.

Choose wisely.

Be fit. It’s the only way to thrive.

Film crew at Disney World
Last night at Epcot, a film crew. There’s never going to be a film crew capturing us at our best.

How do i change the things in my life that no longer serve me? I’ve tried everything, and i just can’t seem to overcome the never-ending obstacles and excuses.

The answer you are looking for…drumroll please….

Think small.

And gradual.

The time will pass anyway, do something.

August 3, 2015

Yesterday morning, discussing someone else’s options.

August 3, 2015 (yesterday).

This is the day a Baby Boomer did three things on the journey to authenticity:

rethink  •  reprioritize  •  recommit

i witnessed the first day which was yesterday.

It will change this person from surviving (like the Herd) to thriving (like the Movement).

Being authentic begins and ends with the person in our mirror.

Authenticity has nothing to do with what others think.

Only a wake up call is powerful enough to get our serious attention.

But it may not be enough. Time will tell.

Midlife Celebration
A serious wakeup call may be the only hope we have of changing.

Imagine taking 30 years to fulfill a promise to ourselves (and our family).

That’s how long it took me.

The guilt would come and go until it literally it disappeared altogether.

Thank goodness for a serious midlife wakeup call.

Baby Boomers suffer from chronic self-bullying.

Lies.

Inspiring promises we made to ourselves but never kept. Never delivered on.

Imagine a rose bush full of wonderful buds, but for some reason, the buds never open. Ever.

The original promise was in 1979 as a college Junior. “i promise to write a book about the most important things in life, for my children”.

i never intended to become a prolific blogger. In fact, it was consistent failure (and not writing consistently) that led to a crazy, self-imposed writing challenge on April Fools Day 2009… write five differently-themed blogs (about balance) for 100 straight days.
