Should we love uncertainty?

road work sign
Yesterday in our front yard. Can road work employees consider their work art? Should they?

Art rarely can be scaled for a production line.

Yet Apple does it with the iPhone.

However, art, for mere mortals like you and me, cannot be scaled.

But is can be replicated in original ways every single day.

It’s called passion.

A calling.

A drive to do the ordinary in extra-ordinary ways.

And each day because we begin anew, we can never be sure of our finished product.

Sometimes we fall short, or even fail.

And this is beautiful.

It reminds us of how uncertain art can be.

Art always carries risk.

And the minute we try to remove uncertainty from our art, something dies.

Removing uncertainty destroys the thing we originally fell in love with.

Whatever we do today, it won’t be the result that makes it magic, it will be the uncertainty.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

This website is about our mental attitude. To easily and safely leave this site to read today’s post on jeff’s physical health website, click here.

Tell us what you really want

Apple Watch Mickey Mouse face
Yesterday, September 8…productivity is not our only daily goal.

Does anyone really know what they want out of life?

For the sake of keeping this thought alive (because few people know), let’s pretend the answer is, “yes”.

With this affirmative assumption, then we must ask, how does one go about fulfilling the achievement of what we really want?

Change easily, never change, or change for excellence?

Florida Country road
Years ago on a country road.

Freakish how something so uncool can yield something so cool.

Ever have a moment and discover you are holding the winning lottery ticket?

Drive the speed limit all day, every day.

First, you’ll have anxiety because no one drives the speed limit (and just think about that one for a minute). A few rare people drive slower than the speed limit for reasons unknown.

You never have to worry about passing someone ever again.

Feel the transformation.

But alas, you won’t be able to because of all the voices in your head telling you to hurry up. You’ll be completely embarrassed and self conscious.

But if you persevere…well then, you will discover something.

Driving the speed limit all the time makes you rich.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Pizzafaria Restaurant yesterday.

Is attitude everything?

Here’s the test.

Are you challenging yourself in ways you didn’t know where possible?

(pause for thought)

Next question.

What if you did?

Time to downshift?

Creative conference room door sign
Interior door sign for exiting a conference room.

When do we downshift, or turn off even, our childlike desire to learn, explore, and grow?

Is there significant growth available to us from the physical act of writing down our thoughts? Is there growth on top of that even, from publishing them? It’s so easy to post things on social media. Isn’t it?

Next time you think of it, look at how few people share original content. Quotes are cool and inspiring, yet it’s not our voice. Where is our voice? When does it get used?

Are we trying to live vicariously through something Abe Lincoln or Hillary Clinton said?

A turning point in our lives is possible when we stop posting quotes and start using our own voice.

Scary. Real.

Transformational.

If your goal isn’t impossible, you’re not reaching high enough.
