Back to the future

aging
what do we hope for and what do we fear?

Why do people attend High School reunions? Why was the tradition started? What has kept it alive? Why are there some that never miss one? And some that never attend one?

Tonight is our class’s 35th reunion. When we were seniors, 17 or 18 years old, did we think the person who shows up tonight is the person we could have become?

Today’s story continues at Just following Doctor’s orders.

faith, hope, and love?

Thanks for the first class upgrade Delta. Harrisburg, Pennsylvania by 4pm. So what, right? Exactly.

The days go by, one after the other. So do the years. And that’s if we’re lucky.

A class mate, Jim Silcox, never saw our 1977 High School graduation.

Another classmate, Mitch Stambaugh, his son went away, to protect our Country’s freedom… and paid the ultimate price two months ago. Cameron will never see his Dad again, nor Mitch his son.

Today’s story continues here at Taking the next two days off, on purpose.

Here’s why midlife transformation means so much

bad role models
we can not afford to become apathetic role models
parental role models
stay focused on being a role model – until (at least) the day we die

When we’re younger, we are led to believe as we advance in our life, things will get easier and even more pleasurable – we can start to coast after we reach the summit. Remember riding a bicycle to the top of a hill? The reward was the downhill ride without peddling.

Children grow up, become young adults and follow the aging process.

If we do not remain our child’s role model (forever), someone else will fill that gap. How is that acceptable?

Have you ever read your label?  Deserved or not, we all have a label. If a survey were taken of twenty people who know us, what would they say if asked to use one word to describe us? We’d likely see a few different ones, and perhaps even some conflicting ones. But most likely, we’d see the same word used several times.

What’s your label? Be it a positive or negative word, do you deserve it?  What can you do to keep it, or to change it? If it truly is not a word that fits, why do people have that impression of you?

Everything we want is on the far side of…

…fear… As we reach our 40’s and 50’s we should be transitioning from doubt about life to certainty. We are certainly going to die. Death’s reality can no longer be ignored. Neither should our desire to be true to ourselves. Go! Take small steps to get past your fear. Go already!
