It’s always something

Broken garage door opened springs
The gap in the long dark coil spring means it’s broken. Broken means the garage door won’t open. Our garage door is our “front door”.

It’s always something. The unexpected. The little thing that causes disruption in our routine and puts unexpected pressure on our day to day plans.

Our daily plans generally don’t allow too much wiggle room.

This makes a tight situation tighter.

This reminds me why i spend everyday, all day, staying positive – never allowing adversity to crush me.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Dear Son, a Sunday morning of epic proportions

Florida hawk on a fence
Yesterday morning during bike ride near Disney University. You rarely get this close to a hawk.

There are days in our lives when an event happens without warning and we are stunned.

Stunned at it’s abrupt arrival.

Stunned by the emotional turmoil that rocks our world.

Stunned at the aftershocks, even as new tremors erupt.

Yesterday morning was one such day.

Life will go on.

And it will go on in a better way because of what we learned as a Family.

Simplicity is operational genius

Quote on truth
Yesterday, during High School campus tour…”Truth is ever to be found…”

Yesterday began with a third, and final, High School tour.

This was a moment many don’t experience because the default option is the closest public school your address says you’re zoned for.

That’s what we had planned for originally.

If you had a more compelling option, but it came with a price, would you take it?

Bank on the unexpected

Quote on habits
Photo: From Facebook. Habits are the secret weapon against going through the motions.

A big part of what throws us off center is the unexpected things that are guaranteed to happen. Some are ‘good’ and some are ‘bad’.

One of life’s greatest opportunities is to be remarkably flexible when the ‘bad’ happens and extraordinarily grateful when the ‘good’ happens.

In essence, and in a perfect world, we would never be crushed by anything, even though we are human. We would also find joy in abundance – everyday, all day.

When we least expect it, we see something rare, and meaningful

Five years ago it became brutally apparent that some personal promises were desperately unfulfilled.

The absolutely crazy idea of a 100-day writers boot camp was dreamt up to attack the long term recurring failures.

And just for fun, why not begin on April Fools Day?

Perfect for such a foolish idea.
