You’re doing it wrong, Jeff

Opening Apple Watch 3 box
Opening the box that was shipped from China, at Epcot – a little earlier in the plan than hoped, but we graciously complied at the Epcot bag check table.

Thought maybe we could take this white box in unopened.

Opening Apple Watch 3 box
Nope. (This was ok too.)

Anticipated worst case scenario, that’s why Chapin was ready with his camera to document the opening.

The future has arrived. No?

You’re doing it wrong, Jeff.

Ok.

To which i think to myself, “But at least i’m doing it.”

Why does that matter?

For many, it doesn’t matter.

And then i remind myself i thought that way too.

Then a series of changes happened and i began a long, slow journey in thinking differently.

The aha moment?

Once i’m doing it, i have a chance to do it better.

Life.

It ain’t a dress rehearsal.

Waiting for perfect means not starting.

Not starting, for me, was riddled with excuses.

Using June 8, 2019 as a deadline for life.

Taking an unopened box to Epcot to open it.

Yeah the stuff i have no role model for.

Live like you mean it.

Or not.

Our choice.

What drives our limitations?

fear
Fear is a habit. Our limits are a habit because of this.

Thoughts.

Decisions.

Actions.

The only limits we have are those we impose upon ourselves.

Bargaining with fear.

What are you afraid of?

What are you crazy about?

What are your hot buttons?

What brings you joy?

What makes you laugh?

What do you do to make progress?

What do you do that holds you back?

What’s the point of having priorities?

High school Track practice
Yesterday, a sprint to the finish line. As a team. A clear goal. Give it your all.

What’s the point of having priorities?

Dear executive, if you wanted everyone to be focused on the key drivers for your organization’s success, how would you accomplish it?

How would your direct reports accomplish it?

How would their direct reports accomplish it?

How will your front line do it?

Why haven’t you been doing those things?

Why aren’t you doing those things now?

You do realize what this sounds like and looks like to an unbiased observer, right?

Radical honesty, radical attitude

forehead thermometer
Yesterday morning preparing for Endoscopy. Forehead thermometer and constant at-a-glance verification.

Many medical tests (but not all) reveal the truth about a patient’s physical condition.

Send a camera scope down a person’s throat and you’ll see what’s really going on.

How do we evaluate our attitude with empirical evidence?

Radical honesty.

Simply look at the body of our life’s work.

What we do proves what we believe.
